RP POST: Everyday is a busy day

RP Post: Every day is a busy day
~Porcia~
It was fifteen minutes till opening time. I had done inspection of the dining room, lobby, restrooms and kitchen. Everything was clean, floors swept, table tops and counters wiped down and condiments were in their proper place.

I turned my attention to my staff. They were at their stations. The waiters and waitress were in the dining hall, the hostess in the lobby, and the cooks in the kitchen. I glanced at my wrist watch and then counted heads of my staff again. I knew it someone is missing. “Who is not here?”

“Its Vanessa ma’am,” Said my manager Clarence the Clefairy Gijinka. “She called in a few minutes ago. She says she quit.”

She quits on her third day, wonderful. “She better return the uniform.” I said stalking into the office in the back of the building. I should have expected that flaky Butterfree girl not to have last.

I picked up the office phone and dialed the number to the village community center. The city council likes to help newcomers get a job when they move in. I found it useful to inform them when I have job openings at my restaurant and it usually gets me new employees quicker than putting out a Help Wanted Sign at the front window. A few seconds of waiting an office worker answered the phone.

“Hello this is Porcia of Poke Delights. Can you put up a notice that I have another job offering for a server? Yes I still have an opening for a host for the weekend. Thank you.” I hung up the phone and picked up the dreaded ‘Help Wanted-Looking for Server’ sign and walked up to the front door.

“Excuse me Miss Porcia,” said the Hostess Marcy a Marell Gijinka. “Do I have to work this weekend?...Because I have plans—“

“We’ll see,” I said placing the new Help Wanted sign next to the other one. I had been looking for another Host/Hostess for two weeks now. I checked my watch again. Just a few more minutes till it’s time to unlock the doors.

I went back to the office checked the small mirror that I hung in the inside of the office’s door. I find appearance is important its part of giving a good first impression and I am a business woman so I must look professional. After checking my reflection I went back to the front door with a key in hand.

There were people waiting outside and it was eleven a.m. on the dot. I unlock the door and opened the doors with a smile. “Hello Welcome to Poke Delights.”

Things went smoothly as the lunch rush began and I expect we might not be busy during dinner hour today. On the weekends it’s usually the busiest time both lunch and dinner hours. And we are short of staff so it might be hectic. I hope to have a full staff this weekend at least.

“Excuse me, Porcia darling,” A familiar grey haired woman called from a table. It was Contanza Cass a Cinccino Gijinka who works at the city council.

“Hello Ms. Contanza is there something you like?”

“I like you to cater for a surprise party for my niece.”

“Of course, when is the party?”

“Tomorrow night.”

Tomorrow night? I went over the schedule in my head. There weren’t any other catering orders this week but it’s a day we’re expected to be busy. “And when will the party be held?”

“The party starts at five pm,” said Contanza. “I would like the food be ready and arrived at the community park at a quarter till five.”

Okay that’s an hour before dinner rush and it is usually slow around that time. I took out a notebook and pen. “What will your order be?”

After writing down the order I went into the office and made a copy of Contanza’s order just in case. Then wrote down the catering date on the large calendar on the outside of the office’s door. I settled down on the office chair and looked over a list of supplies that needed to be sorted.

“Ms Porcia!” one of the cooks shouted from the kitchen. “Andrew burned his hand!”

I whipped out the first aid kit as a pained Sandshrew man appeared at the office door holding up his burned hand. I examined the wound. It was dark red and blistering. Ice and aloe wouldn’t be enough. I cleaned, dressed the wound and said to Andrew. “Go to the clinic. You’re excused for today but come back tomorrow.”

“Sorry ma’am,” Andrew murmured as I led him to the back door.

I asked one of the waiters to take Andrew’s place and I went to the dining hall to help out. The afternoon went well despite having one waitress quit and an accidental injury.

When it slowed down I returned to the office to go through paper work again. The phone rang and I immediately picked it up.

“Thank you for calling Poke Delights. This is Porcia how may I help you?”

“Hello um do you still have a job opening?” asked a young male voice.

“Yes we do. I have an opening for a server and a host. Are you free to come to the restaurant for an interview today?”

“Yes,” replied the caller.

“And would you give me your name please?”

“My name is Joel.”

“Please be here in an hour Mister Joel.”

“Yes ma’am thank you.”

I hung up the phone. “Clarence!” I called for the manager. “I’m expecting a person who goes by Joel for an interview. Tell me when he gets here.”

I prefer to interview people myself and they better live up to my requirements. This is my business and I want things to go as they should be.
