Smart Phones in Sailor Moon

I just finished watching the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal's third season, even though I've yet to see the rest of season one or any of season two. But it's not like I don't know what the hell is going on in the series. Besides, I'm still a little reluctant two watch those first couple of seasons after all the bad reviews they've gotten. In any case, the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal's third season was done extremely well in my opinion. For one thing they got rid of those CGI transformation sequences that looked like they came out of a bad Sailor Moon video game. The production team also did an excellent job with the episode's monster, which I was expecting to be awesome. My one complaint in that area is that I would've liked to see it colored red and black instead of purple and black, but beyond that they lived up to my expectations as far as the monster design was concerned.

What really struck me about the episode though (and some of you may think this is weird), was seeing Haruka and Michiru using smart phones. And it wasn't just them. There was also a civilian who was on the scene after the monster attack happened who used a smart phone to call an ambulance. The original Sailor Moon manga and the first anime series both came out in the 90s, so I found it just a little strange to see characters in SM Crystal using such modern technology. I suppose it's just a sign of the times. Hell, maybe if they decide to remake Cardcaptor Sakura, Sakura's wand will be a smart phone app. Well… that's probably an exaggeration, but I'm sure everybody gets what I mean.

Anyway, Sailor Moon Crystal's third season is off to a strong start. Let's just hope they can keep it up.
