A Word of Warning

Hi everyone. I thought I should do a public service and warn everyone about something that's recently happened to me on Minitokyo, because if it's happened to me it could probably happen to anyone. So a couple of times yesterday I was browsing the new scans for something I could use for wallpapers - really a pointless endeavor since almost all new scans that show up on Minitokyo these days are tasteless images of young anime ladies in skimpy outfits - when my browser almost redirected me to another page because of some ad. This actually happened to me once about a month or so ago. That time I got a box telling me there was supposedly a new version of Flash that I should probably download.

This of course was a trap! It's actually a trap I've fallen into once before about a year or so ago. That time, I went ahead and downloaded that so-called video player update and ended up with a bunch of adware crap on my laptop. My dad had to spend almost the whole evening cleaning that stuff off my hard drive. That is one trap I intend to never fall into again, and I don't want to hear about it happening to anyone else too.

So if any of you reading happen to visit Minitokyo later and suddenly find your browser being directed to another page, just hit the back button right away go to another site you have bookmarked. Otherwise you may end up being taken to a page that tries to get you to download and install a phony Flash Player update or some other piece of crap that'll only do harm. If you aren't quick enough with the back button, then you may have to just restart your whole computer or at least your browser.

That concludes my little PSA. Stay safe, everyone.
