"Welcome to the Reaper's Game! Your appearance here means that you have accepted the challenge of proving yourself worthy of a second chance at life. Don't let me down, dear."
Welcome to theORG! Since you're looking at this page, you must be at least slightly interested in this RP, yeah? If so, here are a few things to help get you started!
1) Read the Rules and FAQ below if you have any questions. If your question is not answered below, message me and I will address it!
2) Check out the "Roles" section for details about the different types of characters you can play as.
3) Design your character, and fill out an application form! Shortly after I've received your application(s), you'll be notified of its approval.
4) Subscribe to this account in order to get updates as we approach Game time.
5) GET HYPE!
RULES
1) Be polite to each other. Someone's character might act like a complete asshole, but there's a real person behind that muse! Don't take things super personally, but if you have a concern or are uncomfortable, talk to the person about backing off, or tell me and I'll take care of it.
2) No fighting/arguing! This stems from the first rule, but basically, keep your personal drama out of both IC and OOC chats, unless it's something you need mediated. Like the first rule, contact ME if there are serious concerns, especially if they regard aspects of the RP
3) No NSFW! Considering the nature of this RP, violence (/talk of violence) and foul language is to be expected, but keep your sexytiems out of it. I feel like I shouldn’t have to make this rule, but YOU NEVER KNOW.
4) Keep OOC to a minimum in the main chat. Short comments here and there are fine, but the Skype chat has been created for a reason! If you decide to speak out-of-character in the chat, please designate it with brackets or parentheses, like [[ ]] or (( )).
5) Have fun! Don't take this roleplay TOO seriously. Feel free to crack jokes, be silly, be overdramatic, abuse capslock and keysmashes, etc. Sure, be serious when it's time to be serious, but outside of that, just have fun! In the end, it's all about having a good time and making memories with friends, right? Heck, one of my favorite chat-based RP memories is the time my male character gave birth to an egg named Steven and we had a Maury-style custody battle to try to figure out who was the father. The egg eventually became sentient, renamed itself Vladimir, and demanded its independence. In the end, the egg ended up being used in a stew and my character accidentally ate his own child. Seriously, be prepared for anything!
FAQ
Q: What is this?
A: This is a roleplay based on the video game The World Ends With You! The basic plotline is that you've died, but have gained the opportunity to come back to life if you compete in an event known as the Reaper's Game, in which you complete various tasks (or "missions") to prove your worth. This page on the wiki explains the Game in further detail!
While knowledge about TWEWY is encouraged, it is not required! You just need to understand the basic premise, really. Everything you need to know will be explained during the roleplay (Or if you'd like some information ahead of time, feel free to PM me! I could talk about TWEWY for hours, haha!)
If you ARE interested in learning about TWEWY/the Game, I recommend watching a playthrough of at least the first few Days over on YouTube, or checking out some pages on the wiki!
Q: How will this work?
A: Canonically, Shibuya Games last 7 days. However, instead of going for a real-time roleplay over 7 days*, as of now, this will be an 8-week adventure! Each week will constitute one in-game day, with days beginning on Sundays, and missions being distributed on Saturdays. The period of Sunday-Friday will be used for in-character interaction, games, goofing off, battles, and any personal plotlines that aren't manageable during missions!
The RP's scheduling will be flexible in order to account for vacations and work schedules. So, really, when things happen is up to the participants! After I've received a number of applications, I'll be sending out a poll in regards to what weeks and days and times work best for everyone. Want missions on a different day of the week? Cool. Two missions a week? Questionable, but definitely doable! If missions are to occur on weekdays, they will most likely begin at 6 PM EST or later (Non-negotiable due to my personal schedule). On weekends, they are likely to begin around noon unless you guys choose otherwise.
As of now, the Game will begin on June 6th!
*If anyone is interested in such a roleplay, check out The Reaper's Game over on tumblr! After stumbling across it back in 2013 when trying to find ideas for this roleplay, I'm a regular participant! Games are held approximately every 3 months. It's extremely organized, fun, and all of the people are hella rad. This is probably going to be a trainwreck in comparison. :'D
Q: 8 weeks? Why 8 weeks and not 7?
A: In order to get a feel for things such as walls, battling, and the general style of the roleplay, the first week/mission day will be a tutorial in which you can pop in and check things out! (More info to come on this as the start date approaches!)
Q: Where will the roleplay occur?
A: The roleplay will be chat-based, and held as a combination of Charat, Chatzy, and theOtaku. Charat will be used for the bulk of the roleplay and missions, while Chatzy will be used for battles, and theO for archiving purposes and other information! Furthermore, there will be an OOC Skype chat!
Q: What is this about Partners?
A: Basically one aspect of the Game is that you're supposed to team up with another Player in order to complete mission objectives. You form this thing called a Pact that basically ties your lifelines together so if YOUR PARTNER DIES, YOU DIE- The Partner system exists as a way to promote trust, forming bonds, and growing as a person! Woo!
Besides being there for learning about the general RP, the tutorial day also exists in order to scope out characters you think your character would be willing to partner up with! I mean, or you can always just pick a friend, but. Where's the fun in that?
Q: "Missions"...?
A: A mission is an objective sent out by the Game Master! Players must complete whatever the task is within a certain time limit, or they will be erased. Missions can be everything including but not limited to: solving a riddle, acquiring a certain object, or defeating a certain Noise! Our missions will be distributed on Saturdays (most likely at noon), and will involve a wide range of activities.
As for how they work, logistically: once the mission mail is distributed, everyone will be in the same area. From there, you'll all pick a direction and start clearing whatever walls (which are guarded by Reapers and have their own set of criteria for clearing, which are different than the mission) are in your way, as well as figuring out what to do to clear the objective for the Day. What needs to be done varies by mission, and each one will be different!
On mission days, there will be stuff happening pretty much all day in order to develop the plot and get in battles. While this stuff will also be happening during the down time of the weeks, the majority of important stuff will be happening on mission days! There will also probably be bosses and bonus fights that will allow you to get some extra swag money.
Q: You mentioned something about battles...?
A: I'm still working out some of the kinks and stats, but there will be a battle system! It will be turn-based, and while not the most important aspect of the roleplay, it will serve to strengthen Players and give them cool swag to buy even cooler swag with. Beyond the function of earning money, the battle system is also there to serve the purpose of having a decently fair way to erase Players!
Q: Erase? You mean my character can die?
A: Well, I mean TECHNICALLY your character is already dead, but yes! The Game functions as a way to sort through those worthy and unworthy of living again. Sure, it'd be cool if everyone could survive, but realistically, not all of the Players in a batch would be deserving! Erasure makes the roleplay more fun, really. I know it seems like a strange and kind of unfair thing, but just keep the premise in mind! If you are COMPLETELY dead set against having your character erased, let me know, and we can maybe work something about. Otherwise, remember that it is a possibility, and if it happens to you, please be respectful and mature about it!
Q: What happens if I'm erased?
A: Well, depending on the circumstances of your erasure-- whether it be through leaving the RP or by chance, you can stick around an observe the rest of the RP if you'd like! If you are erased through battle, you're done, kid. Please refrain from speaking in the main chat, unless there's something plot-y happening after your erasure, such as an item drop. If you are the Partner of the one erased, you have 7 minutes to say your goodbyes and tie up your loose ends! Again, after you are erased, please refrain from speaking in the main chat. The OOC chat is definitely open though! Once you are erased, you cannot come back unless there are circumstances involving yours or someone else's plot!
Q: Can I play as one of the characters from the video game?
A: No. Use your own characters. The TWEWY cast has been through enough. Besides, this is basically an alternate Shibuya--who the heck is Neck Sockrubber?
Q: Can I use an already existing OC/non-TWEWY OC?
A: Most definitely! The only requirement is that they be human and died in Shibuya. Heck, you can use a self-insert for all I care.
Q: How many characters can I play as?
A: I am not placing a limit on how many you can create. Just be warned that you will be in charge of keeping up with all of them! To give you an idea, I myself will definitely be playing as Eliza and Kin, as well as the Conductor and Composer whenever they decide to pop in! I may also pick up a Player if we have an odd number or if I feel up to it! I WILL warn you that playing as multiple characters in a chat-based roleplay is very very VERY difficult! Between having to keep up with who you're currently typing as and trying to get in enough words for each character during group discussions, it can be a real headache if you've never done it before!
IE, my current situation is doable in the sense that Kin would be my main character, present most often. Eliza would mostly only appear around mission start/end times and when certain characters are around. The Conductor and Composer would be very rare visitors, only appearing when needed. Throwing a Player into the mix is not impossible, because Kin would be less active during missions, in which the Player counterpart would be my main focus. So, doable when these characters are acting separately! However, in situations where all of these characters are needed...
Another thing to keep in mind is that in Charat you can only have one character in the room at a time, and would have to constantly switch between characters when needing them to speak. A small nuisance, but a nuisance nonetheless!
Q: What if I have to miss a mission?
A: That's perfectly fine! Just let me know ahead of time. Also, don't worry about being late to missions or having to leave during them, because let's be real, most of a mission is just busy work. Just do what you can! I recommend at least being there at the end of missions, as there will typically be plot developments that occur.
Q: What about the Ski Trip of Mutual Killing?
A: IT STILL EXISTS I SWEAR. WELL, it depends on what gets done during the window of this roleplay! If a case is finished and ready to go at some point during these 8 weeks, we can either have a party and do stuff 2 days in a row (for those who are in both), or move the theORG mission back a week! Ski Trip FTEs will probably start occuring on Fridays or Sundays or just VERY SPONTANEOUSLY.
Q: So what happens if I want to join after the roleplay has begun?
A: :| You had like, 2 months to turn in an application. I will only allow late entrants under extreme circumstances. Sorry! If all goes well, there may be more than one Game, so you could hold out until next time, maybe?
