Cancelled

After watching Firefly this summer, I feel kind of sad every time a show is cancelled. Even if it's a show I don't like, I still feel bad. Also because like, five shows that I watched got cancelled after a season. I watch too much TV....

Debut

Hey, did anyone watch Hatsune Miku's network debut last night? I thought they could have picked a different song. It had good energy but it was really hard to tell what she was singing (or in what language), there was so much layering. People laughed when it was explained what she was but at least they clapped...

Outrageous

Since having a stable income, I decided I would finally get back into buying manga, starting with finishing up series I already had. Admittedly these series are a good handful of years old. What I find totally odd though, is that I can find books published in 2008 but I can't find ones published in 2011. Or better yet, I can easily get my hands on books from 2005 but have to scrounge around for books from 2008. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I've nearly completed two of the three series I've been trying to finish up. In one, I only have two more books to get before it's finished. Frustratingly enough, the last two books seem impossible to find. The copies that I can find only go as low at $20 US dollars, and as high as $130 (!!!).

Even $20 is pushing my spending limit. I still begrudge $10 manga (I'm old enough to still remember when it was $5...). Do you think anyone even is willing to spend $130 on one book?

Hello, 2014

A new year, and thus, time for reflection. I'll make it quick.

2013 was not a great year, but in light of 2012, it was a good one.

I started off the year getting a job, and then quickly loosing it. At the time, it didn't seem like a good thing to be fired. But as it turns out, I'm thankful every day that I'm not working there anymore. I also made a friend there so all in all, it worked out.

The second job of the year went swimmingly and I met a lot of amazing people and also made a new friend. It was uplifting and rewarding and it was the perfect balm to such a horrid start of the year. And when that contract was over, I was able to transition into my permanent job that I have now, and I love it.

I started commissioning out cosplays this year. Although I am still plagued with worries about pirating and such whatnot, I keep at it. The process has been a learning experience and I get to try out things I'd never have done with my own cosplays. It's awesome.

Things went pretty smoothly through the summer and beginning of fall until about October. And then a lot of things went bad. A string of burglaries at a place I know quite well, which resulted in the loss of my laptop and everything that went with it. An acquaintance was hit by a car (accident) and nearly lost his leg. My dad was in an auto accident himself. He came out fine and the other driver was arrested for being drunk but the car was a loss. It was like the year had been saving up bad things to all happen in a month's span.

The end of 2013 has been pleasant, if a bit of an adjustment, and I look forward to 2014.

Happy New Year, everyone. May it be happy.

Nothing Much

Despite not having "blogged" (can you call this blogging?) for a while, there's not much to say. I work full time now and that generally takes up my day. I try to sneak in some television watching in there somewhere.

If you haven't noticed, I've uploaded some stuff. Art and whatnot. Check it out if you're so inclined.

Cosplays are plugging along. The commission is coming along nicely, if very slowly. I'm taking my time on this one, for sure. My personal group cosplay has recently turned into a singular cosplay. I'm not totally surprised about this....The two who were a part of this group are in financial straights...but I'm a bit disappointed, I suppose. It would have been fun.

I watched this movie recently, Tai Chi Zero. I like kung fu movies and this one was a lot of fun. It was original and funny with a pretty solid story line. One review called it the hyperactive love child of Scott Pilgrim and kung fu and that's the most apt way I can describe it. I look forward to finding the sequel.

I heard the other day that there is a dinosaur exhibit close by where you can ride a giant animatronic T-rex. It sounds amazing.

And that's it for me. Hope you're all well.
