‡ Fox ‡

Tch. I was soaring through the sky one moment with Veronica, when she suddenly doubled back to save that bastard Merlox... And then a flash of black zipped past me, leaving a visible trail of dark smoke in its wake. What the hell was that?! I turned and squinted into the distance, barely making out the figure of a spiraling demon as his wings propelled him forward to the surface.

Devion.

Bastard.

I hurriedly flapped my wings, attempting to catch up to him, but it really was a waste of effort. The rest of the journey to the surface was a leisurely one, and I was hoping V would catch up with me sooner or later so that we could talk. I mean seriously, was it possible for her not to throw me into a wall for once?!

I smirked at the thought of my lips on her, her in my bed... The thought of it was doing unspeakable things to my mind. I shook my head distractedly, effectively removing that image from my brain. While V wasn't available to me, I had a hundred other demon girls practically worshipping the ground I walked on. I would survive until she came to her senses.

Finally, I reached the entrance to Hell where I had first seen the two angels. Devion was still nowhere to be found, but at the flicker of an iridescent light, I quickly shifted my direction and flew towards the brightness. There. Devion was with the two angels as the latter tried to evade him. Devion was keeping up with them pretty well, considering he was outnumbered. But I was about to change that.

"Hey, guys," I said casually, hovering about the polluted city below us. We were currently over the slums of the Devil's kindgom, and few demons dared to live on this side of the town, where they were sure to be eliminated immediately by prowling monsters.

All three figures stopped in mid-air, glancing towards me momentarily. I smirked winningly, and one male angel, who had long black-ish hair and pale eyes, approached me cautiously, always keeping the girl angel behind him protectively. Aww, wasn't that sweet.

I took a good look at the chick behind him, gazing at her appreciatively. Now that was one angel I'd love to taint. She had elbow length jet black hair that almost blended in with the rocky mountains around us, and her emerald eyes flecked with silver reflected off the fiery depths of the Hell around us. Damn.

"Alright, you take the dude," I told Devion, crossing my arms and considering both of the angels before me. No doubt they were of a low ranking on Cloud 9. They would be easy to dispose of.

"And the female?" Devion inquired, looking indifferent as always.

"I'll take her," I smirked and slowly walked towards her, but her companion didn't budge. Devion took out a weapon from tattered clothes, and rushed at the guy. The angel immediately reacted, but was unable to unsheathe his own sword.

Narrowing my eyes, I raced forwards towards the girl I was to be fighting, but she danced out of my reach easily. We continued this for a while, until I figured out her strategy. Every time I got near her, she just jumped a few paces back, not approaching to fight or anything. She was probably waiting until I was too exhausted, to attack.

"Gotcha," I muttered. "Two can play at that game." I dug around in the pockets of my ripped jeans and pulled out a pocket knife, clicking the thing open to reveal several blades inside of it as well. "Let's try this one, shall we?"

Plucking one of the silver knives from it's case, I swiftly threw it at the girl, and it grazed her arm before disappearing into the night. I knew if I threw it at just the right angle, her wings would be paralyzed, and she would fall.

Taking three in my hand at a time, I flung them all towards the girl, and she dodged them all, just barely getting scraped each time. She inched further away, hoping to get out of my shooting range, but I had already covered that. Suddenly out of nowhere, the four blades that I had thrown minutes ago came ricocheting off the mountain walls they had hit far off in the distance. Each one pierced the vulnerable spots of her wings, and they suddenly stopped fluttering, freezing in place and dropping the girl into a free fall.

She let out a scream that was so shrill I had to cover my ears. Her male partner looked down just in time to see her falling, and he rushed towards her receding figure. Devion soon caught up to him, blocking his path from the girl. This was all going perfectly.

"Not so fast!" I heard a defiant voice from below me. Looking down, frustrated, I saw two fluffy white wings flapping maniacally. What? This was impossible! The chick that had fallen must have been dead already!

But these wings weren't those of the angel's I had just paralyzed. These were larger and brighter, shinier and fluffier. The green-eyed one's wings were thin and angular, with sharp edges and elegant curves, tapering to a feathered point at the top. These were much different.

"Bad boy, hurting my Evie-chan," the newest angel cooed, looking down at the girl she was cradling in her arms. So her name was... Evie? Somehow I couldn't picture such a quiet girl having such a... Girly name.

"Evie-chan?" I scoffed, shaking my hair. Sandy blonde pieces of hair fell into my gold eyes, and I flicked them away with a shake of my head.

"Now, you must pay." The angel holding "Evie" had shoulder-length auburn hair and warm eyes that now glared at me coldly. Dozens of metal chains around her neck clinked together, making a symphony of menacing notes. The black tights under her neon shorts were very flattering, I noticed. Concentrate, Fox. Concentrate.

"Fine then," I challenged the newcomer. "Bring it on."

She quickly dashed towards the opening that divided the Earth and Hell, tossing the black-haired girl into the square of light that was the entrance to this fiery land. A thud sounded and a beaming face obstructed the light streaming in from the entrance. After a thumbs up from the mysterious face, the figure disappeared.

"Now, where were we?" With a devilish smile, the girl I was going to be battling pulled out four blades, not unlike the ones I used in battle. These ones had a silver sheen, that glimmered even in the darkness of our location.

"Shall we?" I asked her, smirking.

"We shall." And the battle began.
