☾~ Evelyn ~☽

Where the heck had Eternity gotten to?! My heart raced and my palms began to sweat as Valor and I searched for our angelic partner, but to no avail. First Erlos had mysteriously left us without more than a few words, and now Eternity had vanished! Tears began welling up in the corner of my eyes. What if something bad to her had happened?! What if--

"Evelyn?" a high-pitched voice rung in my ears--a very familiar high pitched voice.

"Floria? Floria, where are you?!" I shouted, pushing through a crowd of densely packed angels as they bustled from building to building. Rush Hour was never ending on the Clouds.

I spotted a flash of Floria's familiar face, and breathed a sigh of relief. Eternity had gone to look for them, so it would only make sense that she was with them! Waving Valor over from across the street towards us, I quickly gripped both of Floria's shoulders with my hands and asked, "Eternity is with you, right?"

Floria averted her gaze to the translucent floor nervously, and it was the green-haired girl, Juliet, who answered my question. Her tone was cold and uncaring, and I could barely register the message that they carried. "She disappeared."

Disappeared.

The words rang throughout my brain, throughout my mind, throughout my heart. I didn't know why I was getting worked up--she could have just wandered off like usual--but there was a sinking feeling in my gut that warned me something had happened. And not of the good kind.

"What do you mean disappeared?!" I asked, shaking Floria back and forth even though she hadn't said anything. The petite girl looked dazed as I stepped back from her and placed a hand over my heart.

"We were exiting that building," Floria pointed towards a squat green building with rusted doors and no windows. "And then she just disappeared out of thin air!"

"Did you see anything else?" My eyes were growing wider and wider until they were probably the size of emerald-colored disks. This could not be happened... As soon as Valor reached our group, I quickly wrapped my arms around his for comfort, not even realizing what I was doing. In a normal situation, I would have never been so bold...

But this was not a normal situation.

Eternity... Where did you go this time? Valor glanced down at me, his face turning a face shade of red. He was too polite to shake me off, and I really needed the warmth that radiated from his strong body at the moment. Eternity was my only real friend in this world... My only companion.

"This was left behind," Juliet stated, holding up a single black feather. I gasped in shock and plucked the feather from her hand, but it disintegrated as soon as my hand came into contact with it.

"The demons," I breathed, my forlorn voice lost in a sudden gust. Valor came up behind me and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, but I couldn't help a solitary tear from streaming down my face.

What if they harmed her? Or even worse, killed her? Murdering an angel was a immoral and highly illegal act, and a demon would have to pay a heavy price... But why would such a lowly creature care about jail or death? They wallowed in darkness, fed off of pain. Eternity... Where are you know?

I turned back towards Valor, Floria, and Juliet, wiping my damp and pale cheeks with the sleeve of my hoodie. With a determined stare, I said, "Valor, I am going down to Hell to retrieve Eternity."

Concern was evident in Valor's face as he replied, "You can't do that Evelyn, not alone."

"I have to," I responded, tapping my foot on the floor impatiently. "I can't let you come with me, you're in no shape to do so!"

"I can manage," he muttered, taking a step but wincing as a splotch of blood appeared through his clothes. I knew he hadn't fully healed.

"Valor, you have to go to a hospital and fully recover!" Lowering my voice and stepping closer to him, I lifted up my chin and met his stormy gray eyes. "For me."

With a resigned sigh, he finally nodded. "Be safe."

Floria ran towards me and hugged me around the waist, fiercely rubbing her face in the crook of my neck. "Don't leave!" she cried.

I patted her hair in a comforting manner and murmured, "Don't worry, I'll be right back."

This was the most I had spoken in years, but I could not let my cherished friend be harmed in the hands of those barbarians... Juliet merely nodded at me and whispered something that was carried away with the wind. I acknowledged her with a small smile and turned away from the group, facing the edge of the cloud where the firm ground receded into misty wisps of unstable flooring.

With a running start, I jumped off the ledge of the cloud and opened my wings, rising a few feet into the air before I swooped down towards the Earth's floor gracefully. Soaring straight through the entrance to Hell, I didn't hesitate before touching down on it's dirt-covered floor, trying to sense in my mind where Eternity was located.

I could see more than sense a faint glow in the distance, far below me. There must have been dozens of interconnecting tunnels under Hell's floor... That is where they were hiding Eternity.

Just as I was about to take off, I heard a familiar hissing sound and froze. Turning my head a few inches to the right, I spotted two pitch black tendrils snaking towards me, mimicking the motions of a venomous snake closing in on its prey. I could hear the voices in my mind, whispering and urging me to give in.

Like the last time, I could feel my heart wanting to agree, but it was overridden by the strong urge in me to save my dearest friend. Without a moment's hesitation I took to the skies once more in search of the demons' underground tunnels. I would find Eternity.

And I would get her back.
