Forgot to mention this before, but I did a crapload of karaoke on Saturday, and a friend of mine took a bunch of video because I think he wants to embarrass us all. I don't know if he'll upload them somewhere; however, if he does, you all will be the first to know, because apparently I am a glutton for punishment.
Army of Darkness (1993): So much silly. I prefer Evil Dead II because it combines the best of The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness, but Army of Darkness is still fun. Any excuse to let Ash loose on medieval times is a good one, anyway.
Star Wars (1977): Had a ton of fun watching the Star Wars movies with everyone -- I love 'em to death, but that doesn't mean I can't have a laugh for two at their expense. Every fan of Star Wars has to have mocked Luke's whininess at some point, for instance. And C3PO ... well, it was a lot of fun cracking wise on him, haha. But there's enough quality to it that I can never forget just how much the movie hooked me when I was a kid. It's an awesome space adventure ramped up to 11. Star Wars will always be fun.
The Empire Strikes Back (1980): This is the one that made me fall in love with movies forever. It's just dark enough to be really interesting (unlike Revenge of the Sith, which is the type of over the top dark that gets fanboys drooling), but keeps enough of the fun, adventure and excitement of the first movie to really hook people in. My favorite sequence was always the chase through the asteroid field -- the awesome music (this was before every John Williams soundtrack sounded exactly the same), the maneuvering through the asteroids, Han Solo telling Threepio to STFU ... everything about that scene is awesome.
Return of the Jedi (1983): Annnnnnnnnd this is where George Lucas starts to lose it. Everything on Endor is just embarrassing. The first two movies show that there's a way to do kids movies (and, yes, the Star Wars movies are for kids) without making them look stupid. The third movie gives you Ewoks. God WTF. I hate the Ewoks more each time I see this. Everything outside of Endor is still cool, but Endor itself can go die.
Radioland Murders (1994): Watched this with Molly after the Star Wars funfest. Took a bit for me to get used to the crazy pace, but after I settled it, it was a lot of fun. The murder mystery itself is fine; however, I really enjoyed all the comings and goings in the radio station and the interactions among the writers, actors, producers and grunts. I need to be in the audience for some kind of radio revival someday.
The Lost Skeleton Returns Again (2009): Really disappointing. They take basically everything that works in The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra and overplay it way too much so that it comes off like one lame Family Guy joke that goes on too long. Even the Lost Skeleton loses a bit of his hilarity! (But he's still funny.)
On the queue for this week: Sunset Boulevard (1950), South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut (1999), How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
