The Andromeda Strain (1971): Not a bad hard science-fiction flick, but some parts are just really slow and boring. How much can we watch people conducting experiments before it gets dull? The last bit of the movie is pretty exciting though. Also, who rated this movie G? There's some pretty shocking imagery in here for that rating!
The Game (1997): Loved this because it keeps the guessing and tension high right until the very end. A lot of what happens is totally implausible and ridiculous, but while it's going on it wraps you up in the events, which is really all you can ask of any thriller. That and toy clowns with hidden cameras in their heads.
The Shining (1980): I find it kind of amazing that this was apparently quite hated upon first release. It's a great horror movie -- perfectly paced (slow and deliberate, but never to the point of being dull), perfectly shot (those scenes with Danny rumbling through the Overlook on his Big Wheel are so well done), tons of creepy imagery, horrifying music, and this insane mood to everything that just gets under your skin. The Shining is a classic. The one weak point is Shelley Duvall; does anyone like her character at all? She an anachronism, an older type of horror character (weak, submissive, frightened woman) tossed into a modern horror movie. Even when she survives it is purely due to luck.
