Solstice Seance

It was a perfect night for our Solstice Séance. This was a time where a group I am involved in come into the woods and have a séance during a solstice. We do this so we can communicate with the other worldly beings. We ask them questions, or we answer any questions that they may have. We do this every year, and there has never been a year in which we haven’t done this. And I had a feeling that this one was going to be special.
We began to set up, putting our pillows and candles down. We rehearsed our ritual so that nothing evil would come through, and that it would be a successful séance. We made our positions and began the opening trial. Megan, began the opening speech, just as she always did;
“All worldly beings, from earth, water, fire, wind, join us for conversation and connection. No evil is welcome in our presence, we are here to help, share, and learn. We come to you for no negative intentions, we only come as friends and curiously await for you to join us.” Then we began our prayer for protection, and waited. The candles were lit, and we held hands.
“Remember, no matter what happens, don’t break the circle. Do not show fear, and do not run. Just listen and focus.” I said quickly, as a reminder. We waited. I could hear nothing throughout the forest. Not a chirp of a bird, no snap of a branch, not even the trees were swaying, when there was a breeze blowing. Usually when there is silence through a forest, it’s a bad sign.
Suddenly Lisa, who had been with the group for 5 years, looked up quickly.
“There is an omen coming to us,” She said calmly, yet we could see the worry in her eyes. She closed her eyes, and we were all focused on her. She shook her head. “This is not good, we cannot be here. Something is wrong, very wrong…” Usually when Lisa says something, it’s always right.
“Have you noticed the forest?” I said silently to everyone. “There’d not a single sound coming from around us.” Then I noticed Matthew wasn’t saying anything, which was very odd.
“I think Matthew has already made a connection,” Megan said excitedly. We all turned our attention to him, and listened for him to start asking questions. He was holding his hands tightly, and breathing heavily.
“Who are you…” He said in a tone in which we’ve never heard Matthew use. We could tell her was either angry, or scared. We couldn’t tell which.
“I demand you’re name!” He said harshly. My instincts told me to look up, and I was shocked to see a black bird flying through the air in a very odd pattern. It got extremely cold in such a short amount of time, that the whole circle squeezed each other’s hands very tightly. Silvery flakes drifted down, glittering in the bright light of the harvest moon. The blackbird suddenly came down hard, flying furiously through the air, straight at us.

“Don’t break the circle!” I warned, everyone scarily looking at one another. The bird suddenly crashed right into the middle of the circle, dying instantly. Lisa looked at us, and started to freak out.

“It’s the omen, it’s the omen! This is bad, really bad, we have to leave now!” I shook my head frantically, squeezing hands.

“No, it’s okay, we said the prayer, we are protected. If we break this circle, we will be in danger, but if we stay firm here, we will be fine. Matthew has to finish the connection.”
