Just a bit past midnight right now. Just got home from the screening of the Vancouver Film Race shorts. Four of us went out to represent ourselves.
As expected, we were totally outclassed. Lots of the other filmmakers totally eat and breathe this stuff. And they have boom mikes. And gaffers.
We totally didn't have a gaffer.
Anyway, being a war film with sort of a poignant opening, people were very unsure initially about whether they were allowed to laugh or not. So a lot of pretty hilarious lines would get murmurs and awkward giggles.
And then things get ridiculous, and then everyone laughs. And at that point on it's a ride.
Actually ended with a pretty decent level of applause. So we entertained folks. Or, they were being super polite.
And then my team voted me to go up to the front of the theater to represent us for a short Q&A. Bastards. Evidently, I am considered "the charismatic one". The hell did that happen?
So yeah. It was fun. And we'd like to think we weren't the worst.
So we're happy.
