Journeys In The West . . .

Crikes, a lot is/has been happening over here! Alright, point-form it is!

Re: High School Reunion:

  • As mentioned before, the reunion went really well. Of a graduating class of about 350 students, about 40 or 50 showed up to the pub.
  • Everyone is looking really good these days. I guess once you grow up and learn to dress and stuff, that helps. But yeah, everyone's settled fairly well.
  • Most people still look about the same as they ever have. Though curiously, a lot of people are quite more buff than they used to be. That, or more defined.
  • All the guys had facial hair of some sort now, I swear.
  • I apparently almost got voted for "hasn't changed" and "job most suited to them" (for "writing for a website").
  • A couple people were married, a few more were engaged.
  • A few people were people I had known since I was 5 years old, and we were all excited to know our families are all still in the same neighbourhood of the ancestral homes.
  • One fellow is still friends with me on YouTube and noticed all my convention videos. So he knew about that hobby of mine.
  • Another fellow e-stalked me well enough to find this site. He too knew about that hobby of mine.
  • It's hilarious to just see everyone from high school casually ordering beers now. Just one of those things.
  • Everyone kinda misses band.
  • I thought a girl was pregnant; she had actually just gotten chubby. It almost ended really badly when she thankfully misheard my question of "when are you expecting?" Oops.
  • My old former best friend (with whom I had a rather abrupt falling out) is apparently a major pariah in the circles now due to some asshattery he pulled a few years back. I'm both unsurprised and feeling a little vindicated about all that. I'll be short: all incidents involved girls.
  • Those whose families knew each other were pleased to hear how everyone else was doing - cop brother got some excited ears, especially with the Olympic riots and crazy guys with swords and all.
  • Everyone is watching/reading Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice and Fire.
  • I'm not the only person not on Facebook.
  • I swear a lot more now than I did before.
  • It was fun to see all the quieter types really out of their shells now. I suppose in a lot of ways myself included. I wasn't really quiet and introverted or anything, but I definitely carry myself much more confidently now than I did 10 years ago.
  • It's a hell of a feeling to be able to go to someone else and say/hear the words, "you were one of the people I wanted to see the most tonight."
  • I really truly do remember the most obscure, random things (like the names of one girl's unborn children, for example).

It was fun. I totally recommend hitting up the 10 year reunion when you get the chance. As it turns out, no one seriously compares how everyone's doing now compared to then, and more so just want to catch up and reminisce.

Also, apparently I have an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL reunion in October! All years, all classes; it should be very interesting to see who comes out for that one . . .

Re: Conventions and Cosplay:

  • No new cosplays this summer. Just fixing up and redoing the old ones.
  • Flynn vest needs a fastener fixed. Welkin pants desire to be remade better and possibly with pockets.
  • Cos & Effect, the little local con, is starting to sound better and better with some of the events they're coming out with.
    • I have again been called to organize a formal masquerade ball. Should be simple enough with the smaller convention, but it's also only getting a one hour slot. That's kinda stupid.
    • The Final Fantasy Fight Tournament shall be there and was the dealbreaker for my going to this con'. I have a brand new team with people who have never been in it. It's gonna be fun and they sound excited.
  • A bunch of us kinda wanna do Game of Thrones cosplay. We need a winter convention first . . .
  • VERY excited for PAX. We reckon we'll need to do some ridiculous stuff over there, like eating military MREs in Valkyria cosplay and standing by a Bioware booth and saying that it's our favourite booth at the con'.
  • Crap, I need to start sewing again . . .
  • Been seeing some of the Comic Con stuff coming out. Very pleased by all of that. Especially some of the cosplay. Like, seriously.

Re: Movies and Media:

  • Been buying and reading a LOT of Green Lantern comics lately. Picked up Rebirth a while back and Blackest Day just this past week. That Geoff Johns fellow is badass.
  • Deathly Hallows 2 was fun. Ever so slightly disappointed we didn't get a solid Voldemort "NYEAAAAAHHHH!" in it. But in general, a satisfying conclusion to a somewhat longer than usual film series. Also, Neville is badass.
  • Reading Game of Thrones right no. A Clash of Kings and a Storm of Swords sit eagerly on my desk in front of me, waiting for me to get through the first tome. Related note mentioned previously, my friends and I have made lemon cakes a lot lately. As it turns out, this A Song of Ice and Fire series is ridiculously badass.
  • Sean Bean dies a lot in film. Not quite as badass.
  • I hear Captain America is rather badass. I need to watch that.
  • Young Justice really, really needs to start airing again. I'm in badass animated interpretation withdrawal!

Re: Games:

  • Did anyone know that Spaghetti Cat is in Rock Band? Yeah, that's in Rock Band. That amuses me.
  • AssCreed, Batman, and Uncharted. Crikes, this is gonna be an amazing year for games . . .

And now I have guests. That is enough blogging for a day, I think.
