Chapter 65

"Kayden, do you want to go into the village with your father and I?" my mother asked from the doorway.

I shook my head in response. I was glued to my perch near the window, and I didn't feel like moving any time soon. My head rested on the glass as I looked out at the Ghile land.

"Sweetie, it isn't healthy for you to stay in here," she said as she made her way over to the window seat, plopping down beside me. Her hand came up to my head and she ran her hand through my hair. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked softly. Chance had filled them in one what had happened.

Tears welled up as I thought about it all again. "Why did he just leave me?" I sobbed, throwing myself into her arms.

"Well, honey, he just wasn't thinking. He saw the two of you kissing and must have freaked," my mother said, holding me tightly to her.

"But, why wouldn't he talk to me about it? It was just a kiss, a kiss I didn't even want to be a part of," tears fell down my face, soaking into my mother's dress.

"Which is why I told you he wouldn't be a good fit for you," my father's voice startled me from the doorway. He was just being overprotective, I knew that. But, it still hurt. What if he was right?

"I want to go back and talk to him," I decided, pulling away from my mother and standing up.

My mother followed me, "Kayden, do you really think that's a good idea? We don't want you to get hurt even worse. At least go to the mirror before you go, okay?" she suggested.

I nodded. "Okay, I will. But, If I'm not here when you get back, I'm with Shunsuke. I'll bring him back if we work things out that way we can say our proper goodbyes."

They nodded and left my room. Dressing quickly in my skimpy leather corset-like tanktop and small miniskirt with fishnet leggings underneath, I headed to the mirror which rested in my parents' study.

The mirror was an important artifact that my father had gotten in one of his crusades. It allowed the user to see a person and what they are doing. I would see what Shunsuke was doing. If he looked as sad as I felt, I would go back to him and talk to him. But, if he looked happy I'd leave him alone.

Opening the door to the study, I quickly found the mirror on the table in the back, away from the mirror. "Mirror, show me Shunsuke," I said aloud and watched as it glowed a brilliant blue before clearing and showing me images. I recognized the school campus. It must be after school. There were many kids on the lawn talking and laughing.

I noticed Shunsuke right away. He was standing with his back to the mirror. I couldn't see his expression, so I tilted the mirror, and I moved it so that I could see Shunsuke from the front.

What I saw made my heart skip a beat. He was kissing a girl. I nearly dropped the mirror, but recovered it in time. I set it back down on the table. So, he was able to move on that quickly? After all we had been through together? Or was I the only one that had enjoyed it?

Turning, I began to leave the study when the calendar caught my eye. I ran to it, no. Tomorrow was my eighteenth birthday. The day Satan would come for me, no matter where I was. I couldn't stay here, he would find my parents.

I had to get out of there, but where was I supposed to go? Shunsuke had left me, and Dia was no where to be found. Sighing, I knew I should just go find Satan on my own. This way, he wouldn't find where any of my family lived, and Shunsuke would be safe in the human world.

My mind set, I left the confines of the palace and began the journey to where I knew Satan would be waiting.
