Chapter 83

"Pretty embarassed about earlier?" Shunsuke whispered into my ear after he joined me on the balcony of my room. He came up behind me, pulling me to him as we stared out at the moonlit scenery in front of us

I smiled "Kind of," I admitted. What was the point in trying to hide it. Shunsuke knew me better than that. I also knew he was embarrassed about it as well, so I wasn't alone.

He smirked, "Really? Your face was as red as a tomato." He leaned in closer to me. "You will be again when I say this." He paused for a moment. "I want you," he whispered, taking something out of his pocket. "I am not the romantic type, but here it is." It was such a nonchalant way to propose that I was unsure if he was serious at first. "Kayden, will you be mine?" he said opening the box to reveal a silver ring.

I gasped, unable to control the reaction that I had wanted to hold in. I glanced up into Shunsuke's eyes. Such love emanated from them. I smiled, reaching up to engulf him in a kiss. "Of course I will. Just promise me you won't leave me again."

He nodded. "I'll never leave you again." He took the ring out of the box. I held up my left hand and he slid the ring onto my finger. It was odd, seeing jewelry on myself.

"Are you sure you're ready for this?" I asked him. "I mean, it's a pretty big commitment. And from what I gathered, most humans waited to get married until after college."

He smirked down at me again. "If I wasn't absolutely sure of what I wanted, do you think I would have asked?" I smiled, and he continued. "I have no idea what the future holds for us; I don't really know what tomorrow is going to bring, but I do know that I want to find out, but only with you. Without you..." he seemed to be searching for the right word.

"Without you," I began. "I wouldn't be complete." I finished. Smiling, I continued, "Without you, I don't feel like I have anything to live for. You keep me whole, sane, human."

"Mrs. Kayden Mukuro. I like the sound of that," Shunsuke smiled.

"Mukuro. Kayden Mukuro," I played with the name, liking the sound of it as well. It just seemed so right. The cool air was chilling me to the bone. Pulling him into my room, I set the velvet box on the table and sat down on my bed. "Well, since we are engaged now, you no longer need to sleep in a separate room."

"I like the sounds of that," Shunsuke grinned sitting next to me.

"I thought you might," I said as I leaned forward to kiss him passionately on the lips. How I would remember this night for all time.
