Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Secret Santa Wishlist

I’m participating in the lovely chibi-anna-chan’s ecard Secret Santa, so I thought I’d post a little wishlist in case the person who got my name needs ideas. Keep in mind you don’t have to use these, but I’ll just list off some of my favorites for ya.

Video Games: Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem, The Legend of Zelda, Golden Sun, Smash Bros.

Characters: Seto Kaiba (Yugioh), Link (LOZ), Sesshomaru (Inuyasha), Fakir (Princess Tutu), Kyo (Fruits Basket), Seth (Fire Emblem), Hector (Fire Emblem), Alex (Golden Sun)

Pairings: Hector-Lyn (Fire Emblem), Link-Zelda (LOZ), Seth-Eirika (Fire Emblem) Takuto-Mitsuki (Full Moon), Fakir-Duck/Ahiru (Princess Tutu), Ikuto-Amu (Shugo Chara), Rath-Cesia (Dragon Knights), Roy-Riza (FMA)

Okay, I’m sure that’s way more information than you needed, but feel free to pick an idea from one of these. Thanks so much!

Tagged!

Tagged by the lovely chibi-anna-chan!

1. You must post these rules.
2. Each person must post 11 things about themselves in their journal.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create eleven new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and post their usernames on your journal.
5. Go to their page and tell them you have tagged him/her.
6. No tag backs.
7. No stuff in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you are reading this." You legitimately (AKA, really, truly, with all honesty) have to tag 11 people.

Chibi-anna-chan’s questions:

1. Do you prefer savoury or sweet foods?
Sweet!

2. What was your favourite song five years ago?
Oh boy…Hm, I actually think it’s the same as it is now. That would be “Into the West” by Annie Lennox.

3. Favourite author/mangaka?
J.R.R. Tolkien for author. I’m not sure if I have a favorite mangaka…maybe Yukiru Sugisaki.

4. If you could learn a circus act, what would you choose?
An animal trainer of some sort ^^

5. Would you prefer to live in space, or under the sea? Why?
Under the sea. It makes me think of The Little Mermaid, heh ^^; Space feels a little too dark and lonely.

6. Do you like cold weather?
Nope. Anything below 40s (F) gets pretty uncomfortable, and unfortunately where I live we get a lot of cold temperatures in the winter >.< Although I do like to have it cold for Christmas time.

7. Earliest memory of me?
I think it was just seeing your cards and wallpapers on here. I feel like I have the memory of a goldfish sometimes ^^;

8. Your most treasured possession?
Ah, tough one. Perhaps my wedding/engagement rings.

9. If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
I’d like to live closer to my family.

10. How do you relax on your day off from school/work?
No school or work at the moment, but drawing, reading, and video games are good relaxing activites ^^

11. Computer games or console games?
Console games.

Excuse me while I BREAK THE RULES (O_o) but I’m not going to tag anyone. I don’t mind being tagged at all, but I always feel like I’m making people feel obligated when I tag then ^^; So, if you want to, here are some questions for you to answer:

1. Why did you pick the username that you have?
2. What’s your favorite animal?
3. Do you like snow?
4. What’s your favorite vacation spot?
5. What is/was your favorite subject in school?
6. What’s your favorite book?
7. Are you introverted or extroverted?
8. Who’s your favorite fictional character?
9. What do you usually eat for breakfast?
10. What’s your favorite time of day? (ie. Morning, afternoon, night…)
11. Do you have any pets?

There you go!

Just a side note since I'm here anyway - my great-grandmother turned 100 yesterday! She's doing fantastically for her age, and it was great to celebrate this milestone with her and the family this weekend.

Hope you're all doing well!

Sketch Process

Hello again!

My buddy LucCalar mentioned that he would like to see some of the process that I go through for my digital artwork, so I thought I’d put an entry together showing some of my sketches vs. the finished product.

1 – “Respite”
This is probably my best example as I happened to scan a version of it early on before I had detailed anything but the faces. This is also very typical of the process I go through.

I almost always start with a pencil drawing, starting with a rough sketch with some skeletal elements (kind of light here, sorry), then building on top of that and erasing to get a more complete pencil drawing. Then I use my tablet and Photoshop CS5 to draw the digital lineart over top of my pencil drawing (on a different layer, of course). Lastly here I added base colors. Then lots of shading later we have…

The finished picture! Note this is an older one so the lines are a bit thicker than I usually make them now. Also most of the background was just added as I went along.

2 – “Dance with Me”
This one is similar to the first one, but I wanted to show it because it’s a case where I started with a much rougher pencil sketch and filled in most of the details digitally.

Here’s my original sketch and then a modification of Rennac’s arm I added in Photoshop because I didn’t like the original placement.

And then the final!

3 – “Because I Love Owls”
I don’t believe this one ever made it to TheO...it was just a quick picture I made for an ID on DeviantArt a while back. But it’s a rare case where I did everything digitally, no pencil involved, so I thought I’d show it. I usually avoid this method because I’ve found that I have a harder time getting anatomy right for some reason when I draw straight through my tablet, but this one turned out alright.

As you can see, my tablet sketching is VERY messy!

4 – “Dark Link”
Lastly I wanted to show a piece where I just colored directly underneath one of my pencil drawings in Photoshop. This is the same sort of thing I did for the drawings of Felix, Arcanus, Midna, Rath, and Seth in my portfolio.

Here’s my original pencil drawing and then the finished picture. I set the pencil layer to “multiply” and then painted underneath it. In this case, I also duplicated the pencil layer to make it darker.

And that’s it! Thanks for reading, and I hope this was enjoyable. Feel free to ask questions if you have any ^-^

Submission problems

My apologies to my subscribers if you've been seeing a lot of deleted work from me in your updates. For some reason I've been unable to upload ecards or fanart for the last several days. I just get an error message, and then my picture/card comes up blank. Is anyone else having this problem? It's horribly annoying >.<

Another great birthday gift!

Yet another of my wonderful friends dedicated me a birthday present. Here's the lovely card that chibi-anna-chan made for me!

Ah, I love it ^-^ Owls are my favorite animal, if that wasn't already a given. I think I need to draw one one of these days.

By the way, my birthday was fantastic this year. My husband's birthday is on the same day, which is always fun. We went back "home" to stay with my Dad for the weekend, and we went to see Tangled, which was so good! I definitely recommend that one. We also had a party with my family, and a party with my husband's family the weekend before. We've been doing a lot of travleing now that everyone lives in different places ^^; I really miss it when we all lived within 10 minutes of each other. Anyway, among my gifts were The Legend of Zelda:Spirit Tracks and a new camera, so I've been having lots of fun with those.

Another thing I haven't mentioned is all the snow we have at the moment. Last week a terrible snowstorm hit us, leaving at least three feet of the white stuff on the ground. It took me two hours to dig out my car! Oh, I have to post the picture now:

There you have it.

Thank you readers for stopping by! And thank you again chibi-anna-chan for the wonderful card! ^-^
