They just keep knocking...

So this morning was the third time in less than a week that the same two Jehovah Witness ladies have knocked on our door. Both of the previous times, we've given a polite "Thanks, but no thanks", and yet they keep coming. If this continues, well, we're contemplating reporting it.

They just came by five minutes ago, and less than a minute after they left, another lady we didn't recognize came up too. Tag team soul saving? We didn't have any luck, you give it a try?

Late Birthday Present Update

I never did post about Raina's presents arriving. I blame the Kindle for distracting me. So shiny.... >>;

I got a signed, framed picture of Colin Baker (Sixth Doctor) and a little framed picture of Raina and her cat Luna. :) *hugs them lots*

And Pond got a toy ducky that has pull-string vibration. =83

Thank you very much for the gifts, Raina. X3 *hugs tight*

I Challenge Myself!

Now that I have my shiny new Kindle, and I've discovered it helps me actually read faster, I'm really psyched to attempt another of those 50 Books in a Year challenges. But I don't want to wait til January to start, so I'm going to kind of modify it a little.

I'm going to start now with my current book, and go til the end of next year. With those few extra months added on, I'm going to challenge myself to read 75 books in that time. So let's get this thing going.

(I haven't finished my current book, but I'll put it down to get the ball rolling.)

1) Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut

SPEED Kindle

I finished my first book on the Kindle today. I've been feeling a bit meh, so most of this weekend was spent in the big comfy chair in the living room, reading. But still, it's rarely taken me just a couple of days to finish a book. I think the Kindle allows me to read faster than I do with an actual book. Not sure why, but it's cool. :D

I could finally give those 50 books in a year challenges a try.

And in case anyone is interested, I read A Talent for War by Jack McDevitt, on suggestion from Ichigo.

Post-Birthday Post

Wow, now that that little Otakulypse is over...

I want to thank everyone for the birthday gifts and portfolio posts. :) Also, if you haven't seen this card made by Raina...

So I guess I'm not an old man after all. :P

But, it's not every day you turn 30. I still can't quite fathom that I've managed to stay on this Earth for three decades. It seems pretty unbelievable, especially after all the crap I've been through in the last few of those years. Let's hope I make it to 40 to be amazed yet again.

In terms of birthday presents, not much from the family, although mom already got me that Victor Borge dvd set a couple weeks ago, and I guess you can count Pond as an early present too.

From Kat, I got (in a TARDIS-decorated box) a couple of nice art pieces: this picture of the Doc and this "trading card" of me (second from the left). There was also the new Owl City CD, and a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Pinkie Pie toy. Yes, I am man enough to accept it.

And, an unexpected present from Ichigo... a Kindle. O3O Some of our recent pre-podcast conversations have been about scifi and fantasy books, and the fact that I wanted an ebook reader, but didn't think I would get one soon since my money's going into my nutrition therapy and the cat these days. Little did I know the guy would be so generous as to buy me a Kindle. I thank him profusely. *bows*

Still waiting for Raina's present in the mail, so I'll post about that when I get it.
