Here’s a little fun fact about me, I love The Beatles! Yes, I’m a big Beatle fan.
I was first formally introduced to The Beatles when I was 11 years old. My parents had bought the number one CD, when it first came out and were really jazzed about it. When we went home to listen to it, my family gave me the load down and that was my start of the loving of their songs. I had really always loved their songs, but up to that point I never paid attention to who the artist were and the name of the songs, so I had no idea who I was listening to.
So 8 years later I’m still a fan. Today or now yesterday (Friday) I, my dad, and my sister went to the Ontario Mills Mall in the afternoon to eat lunch and walk around. Well we walked into the Virgin Mega Store, and they had a middle aisle with Beatles merchandise. There was a small sale on some of the Beatles CDs, one of them was The Beatles/1967-170 , containing 28 of their greatest hits. I was overjoyed and showed my dad. He was surprised, since he had been looking of this CD for some time now and asked where the other one was. “There’s another one?” I said, “Yeah, the one with their earlier songs.” my dad said. He went to ask an employee and we found the other one (The Beatles/1962-1966, with 26 songs), though it was not on sale. My Dad bought one and I bought the other, since we don’t have a lot of money right now, but we were too jazzed to not buy it.
So, I’m listening to them right now as I’m typing this. I’ve gone through 15 songs so far while typing this. *hears* “Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song and I’ll try not to sing out of key”
Yes, I’m a happy camper right now :D! *bobs head to the music* “Cellophane flowers of yellow and green, towering over your head. Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes and she’s gone. *drums* Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Ah ah..”
Excuse me while I go and listen to the rest of the songs. I keep having the urge to type out the lyrics as I listen to the songs, Haha. I’ll give you a taste of the Beatles with this music video. I had a hard time on which one to pick, but I ended up picking "I Am The Walrus", because that is what I'm listening to right now and because the video is so WTF.
Fun Fact:"The genesis of the lyrics is found in three song ideas that Lennon was working on, the first of which was inspired by hearing a police siren at his home in Weybridge; Lennon wrote the lines "Mis-ter cit-y police-man" to the rhythm of the siren. The second idea was a short rhyme about Lennon sitting in his garden, while the third was a nonsense lyric about sitting on a corn flake. Unable to finish the ideas as three different songs, he combined them into one.
Lennon received a letter from a pupil at Quarry Bank Grammar School, which he had attended. The writer mentioned that the English master was making his class analyze Beatles lyrics (Lennon wrote an answer, dated September 1, 1967, which was auctioned by Christie's of London in 1992). Lennon, amused that a teacher was putting so much effort into understanding Beatles lyrics, wrote the most confusing lyric he could. Lennon's friend and former fellow member of The Quarrymen, Peter Shotton, was visiting, and Lennon asked Shotton about a playground nursery rhyme they sang as children."
