Last Words

A/N: Shoot me. I can't think of anything lately!!

Last Words.

I will never forgive you...

Kyo woke with a gasp and looked around. It took him a minute to remember everything: the wedding, the plane, the arrival to Venice. It took him a minute to absorb that he was free, despite a few years had passed. That he was now married...the brief flasback had erased everything.

"Kyo?" He rolled to face Tohru. She was gazing at him with worried eyes. Her hair was slightly messy, her eyes glassy due to the bright moonlight that illuminated her face.

Kyo gazed at her...he stroked her brown hair softly, composing his face so that the shock wouldn't show in his eyes.

"It's okay,"he said quietly. He bent to kiss her lips. "I'll be fine."he assured. Tohru looked at him anxiously.

"Are you sure? You're not sick, or..." He rolled his eyes childishly, smiling. How could someone so sweet be so paranoid?

"Just get some sleep, darling."he said.

Tohru nodded, lay her head back onto her pillow, and closed her eyes.

Kyo watched her sleep, eagerly, as though he would never be able to see her for enough time...despite he knew that he had a lifetime ahead by her side...

But his own guilt would never leave him alone.

I will never forgive you...

The words rang inside his head.

He remembered what it had been like, to hear it. It had been a strange mix...hatred for himself, guilt, sadness...Kyoko...she was lying there, bloodied...

Why didn't I do anything?!

WHY DIDN'T I HELP?!

And then, he had blamed himself so greatly...

He had always wished for Kyoko and Tohru to be happy. He remembered wondering, all the time if they were happy, or if the were sad, lonely. But somehow they never seemed sad, not that he knew at least.

Until Kyoko died.

Until his guilt overwhelmed him.

Shishou took me to the mountains...

But even there, when he was supposed to be training...he wasn't alive...he just existed... existing wasn't enough...he was just there...

He was trying to release me...

The darkness...

He couldn't see it...had been able to feel it...he had been unable to forgive himself for what he had done...

Although what I hadn't done would have been a better expression,he thought while gazing at the beautiful Venice, extending outside his window.

He had managed to convince himself that the one way to escape was...dying...but then...he had realized...or told himself...

He had told himself that it had been Yuki's fault.

I will never forgive you...

And when he had made that stupid bet with Akito...

When he had ran off to find his rival...

There she was?!

It had been the greatest shock...he hadn't expected her! Why just then?!

I will never forgive you...

He hadn't meant to be so involved.

I will never forgive you...

He hadn't meant to fall in love.

But in the end...he did.

I will never forgive you.

"Kyo?"

"What?"

He hadn't noticed Tohru. She was standing there, beside him, holding his hand. He hadn't realized that he was crying...Kyoko's last words still ringing in his ears...

"Kyo...Don't be sad..."she begged. He gazed back at Tohru. "Just promise you'll stay with me,"he whispered while hugging her. She nodded softly.

Kyoko's last words faded off into oblivion as Kyo kissed Tohru...
