I saw the card that sparked this whole thing. Personally, I think she overreacted. I know you were trying to be helpful, but I guess you just came off as blunt. I feel you; I'm kind of a blunt person, too.
It's too bad that on the Internet, all we have to go on is words. No tone of voice. No facial expression. A comment can be taken a lot of different ways if there is no context.
