Have you considered a cool greys instead of the warm greys on the saint outfit? The boots are looking cool, If she's to be doing any fighting look into some of the French Chevilier outfits.
Have you tried doing to drop shadow method? It creates a very soft, even outline if you set both X and Y offsets to 0. I used to do it like that until I learned about the stroke selection method.
I use GIMP 2.8 and there are a few ways to do it. Here is my favorite way though:
-First, choose a color and brush for the outline.
-Select the object you want for the outline and create a new layer beneath the selected one.
-Then go to the Edit tab and open Stroke Selection. (make sure you are on the new layer)
-Finally, choose the stroke with a paint tool option and click Stroke.
If you want, I can make a quick tutorial with pictures to show you how. It might be easier that way instead of just writing it out like this.
