I don't know how old she is, probably too young to play the guitar the way she does. Arashi was born to a colombian immigrant mother who fled the country during the 70s drug war and married a Japanese fisherman. Growing up in Yokosuka city Arashi found a brief mentor in Hideto Matsumoto, a local misfit and hair stylist who introduced her to heavy and melodic guitar playing. She visits his grave every year. by the early 90s Arashi moved to a small studio in Harajuku city where she met Hideaki Kato, a prominent folk blues guitar player who became a pivotal influence in her career, despite their few and brief jam sessions. Arashi has provided rhythm and sometimes lead guitar for heavy metal, art rock, grunge, and most recently garage rock bands in Japan, and then in Colombia when she settled overseas. When she returned to her Shinjuku home she was diagnosed with an unusual type of IBC cancer that did not manifest common symptoms. A mastectomy was critical to avoid fatal complications. Full physical and psychological recovery took months, bringing Arashi's projects to a temporary halt. On the scar there is a tatoo of spiky entwined roses, Blue and White on one end, Red and Black on the other. She has worn a pink ribbon since she was exposed to the body of work by activist Matuschka.
