When he was a little boy, a trusted friend of the family kidnaps Jeremy and his friend Brad. Jeremy whitnessed this "friend" murder another man by tearing him apart, limb from limb. The blood in the picture is the blood from the victim. The bear he's holding is a present that was given to him just days before the kidnapping, so whenever Jeremy comes in contact with the bear, or any sight of blood (even a papercut), he becomes hysterical.
