This is a big one for me. First animal, first background. I had to crop it and the original was so much better. More detail. I see mistakes but I'm still pretty proud of it. Copywrite Blue Swallow Productions, and all that.
In my story there are eleven legendary characters, ten are marked. The ten are based on the ten deadly sins, yes there are ten that is why my screen name is what it is. This is the tenth and the youngest, Maerens, or in English, melancholy. I use the Latin to separate the sin from the word and the character from the sin.
About this picture, it too three days. I drew the face and head, inked. Then the body, inked. Then the crow, and it goes on from there. Maerens has black hair that fades out, and gray eyes. They had to be gray because that is the color associated with the tenth sin. He's pictured in a graveyard because that just makes sense for people to be melancholy there. His expression came out wrong but I never went to fix it. That's more suited to his older sister, Apathia (apathy) or his older brother, Acedi (sloth). I'm horrble with expressions anyway. He's wearing a sweater/winter coat thing and I'm not sure why. It just happened that way. The tree is based off of a kind of tree usually found in graveyards. They twist around and stuff like that. That one's pretty dead looking. He's got a crow on his shoulder because that is the representory animal of the tenth sin. I'm so proud of that crow. The Latin on the headstone says "My God, my God why hast thou forsaken me" which is really very bleak, and really amazing that one word said all that. Maerens's mark, which is on his face, is the character for the number ten in the Varang Kshiti alphabet. And just for the heck of saying it, cenodoxia (vainglory) is the eighth sin and apathia is the ninth. Thanks for looking and sorry it's so long.
