This is what Hotaru looks like in her Kanto journey and her main Pokemon team before they evolve.

Team:

• Dratini named Sakura
• Pikachu named Kiminari
• Charmander (her starter)
• Pidgey named Roto
• Seel named Dewgong
• Odish named Konoha
• Espeon named Emerald (that's shiny :D and has no Pokeball)

Her journey happens along side Satoshi's (Ash's) while he's half way through his Honen journey and into Kanto's frontier. Her journey ends about when he gets the second to last Frontier badge. She has several months rest back at home in Viridian City. After Satoshi meets Hikari (Dawn) and Satoshi's first match with Shinji, Hotaru and Grey head for Sinnoh by boat and are attacked by a angry Gyrados. Hotaru is washed up on shore with Emerald and her new Charmander named Blaze and is found by Shinji.

An event like the picture I did called Hoshi's Revenge: Every bird has it's day will happen but in different cercemstances. Instead it'd be Roto vs a newly caught Starly and the two split up and Shinji battles a different trainer releases one of his Pokemon.
