Meet Fumiko, my entrant into the NYAF contest! I tried doing parallels for this contest. The theme really made me think. New York represents progress, glamor, beauty, and of course, Freedom! So I drew Fumiko here, the embodiment of all these things and more. She is coming to America...in a throwback tribute to 1939. The picture is has a layout like the World's Fair stamp from that year, her clothing is from 1930's, and Mixing the two distinctions of the thirties combined with a (very often used in anime) wild blue hair color, brings forth another parallel: The Great Depression of the 1930's. We too are in the midst of a 'great depression' exactly 70 years later, but Fumiko's smile welcomes you to NYAF to forget your worries and indulge in anime...if only for a little while.

Wow. I really hope my rant up there makes sense... XDD;;;
