There is so much to this piece...Last week here in Europe hundreds of flights were cancelled due to clouds of volcanic ash billowing from Iceland. The whole situation made me think how we are just a little piece in Mother Nature`s game and sparked my imagination.
Maybe below Iceland`s fractured and frozen landscape, Norse Gods still tinker and hammer away under the earth`s crust, right underneath towns and cities. The clouds of glass and fine debris could have been an act of ill will against our ways - a reminder that they`re still there.
Another interesting thing about this piece is that I tried to do other versions of it and I failed to capture the raw emotion in the character`s face: an element of Cobain-esque, pyroclastic madness that is unique to this particular sketch. That goes to show a draiwing is not just a drawing but a snapshot of the emotions involved as well.
