"Can you imagine a place that is sincerely silent? No city lights, no cell signal, no distant highway, no connections to the outside world? That is the place where I am from. And as I walk home 2 in the morning, I reflect back on these sacred moments in a place completely isolated. The Sky is a dark navy blue and cloudless. A gibbous moon illuminates the scenery in blacks and blues. The world is completely silent.
"Then, somewhere, I hear a wolf howling. Only one wolf, for there are no others, for he is alone, as I am walking home. I do not fear this wolf, which could be only a few streets over, perhaps just outside the village. And as I listen to this wolf howling in this dark, yet serene setting that is cold and almost holy, I look to the sky where my wolf is, and there the sky is green with northern lights. For once, I'm too afraid to whistle and taunt the slow moving lights in the sky., and I listen to my wolf howl just a short distance away as I walk home in completely silence, 2 in the morning.
"Something tells me I'll never relive this moment ever again."
When I get home, my grandmother says there are no rabbits this winter, and the wolves are going hungry.
