MILD SPOILERS: for those who haven't read 1984. This is from the beginning of the novel, but I thought I should warn anyways XP
I recently found my old, beat-up copy of George Orwell's 1984, probably one of my favorite books of all time. I began re-reading it too.
1984 is a dark, disturbing story, which is probably why I love it so much. I don't know what I was thinking, giving Winston an expression like that. It seemed appropriate at the time, considering he's committing ThoughtCrime.
I remember what really got me interested in reading 1984: When I was a sophomore in high school my English teacher had these posters up in her room. They were fictional movie posters for books, like Of Mice and Men, Grapes of Wrath, Hamlet, etc. Made them look like movies, even though they were for books.
Then there was this one poster that really caught my attention. It was a silhouette of a man standing in blue light, and it read "The price of freedom is betrayal: 1984" It really got me to read the book O_O
"The murder of a language is a beautiful thing".
