I've been getting requests from people a lot lately about drawing references, posing and various other things, so I will be posting them up here.
Here we have some roughs of various side views of the typical character head. Notice I draw a almost half-diamond shape about midway through the circle to make out a rough shape of what will eventually be the nose and the chin. the line that connects from the bottom of the diamond shape to the circle is the lower jaw. All of these things can be later reshaped in the final linework for the actual nose, lips, chin and jaw.
A little known fact about this is that it is also the same basic shape I use for almost all perspectives of the head on a typical character with the "center" point of where the nose, and eyes will be aligned being the only thing that actually changes.
It is simply all a matter of how you want other people to interpret the lines
