This is my piece for the 2011 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in San Antonio, Texas. For those of you unfamiliar with the annual event, it's a "convention" of sorts for western-based material from belt-buckles to bull riding. There are a variety of things bought and sold and showcased, including artwork. Just about every school in that half of the state prepare their students to compete for a place in the show. In 2011, me along with 2 other fellow students of the 7 from our school were awarded high enough ribbons to attend. From there is when we first applied for an interview to attend the summer Western Art Academy (WAA) Workshop. Of the 600 or so students to attend that year, me and another kid from our school managed to wriggle our way into the 48 students chosen that year. It's one of my prouder moments!
The drawing is all pencil, and I can't remember the the actual size by the number but I can say it's basically poster sized. I worked on this at school on weekdays for an average of 6-8 hours a day, plus a portion of my 3 weeks of winter break from school. All in all, this took me about 4 months to make (the helmet alone took 1 month!) and i can safely say it is the best I've yet to offer so far in life. I consider all my drawings my babies but this is THE baby! As always, enjoy!!!
