I decided to try a new technique: I don't know the official name for it, but it's where you take the head/bust of a character, scale it up, turn down the opacity, and then set it into the background. Gives a nice effect!
It was really cool being able to do it in Manga Studio, cuz when I selected all the layers that made up Maka, then right-clicked, it gave me the option to copy just those layers! Then I could merge them into a copy of Maka (unshaded) and use the copy to do the effect.
The shading was supposed to look like the light source is to her side, not above or below, so that's why it might look a little funny. I'm not familiar with this angle of shading, so if anyone can give me tips, feel free to comment!
Done from memory... that's why I messed up with the button on her sleeve (among other things).
