Earl Bendek is a Korean who has been a resident of Mute City, Japan for about six years. He had fled his homeland after making a traumatic order during the Korean Civil War as a tank battalion leader. Earl remained isolated in Japan for many years, he faced unemployment, had no friends--yet could obtain many girlfriends. Earl was one of the many fans of F-Zero, originally a Captain Falcon fan, but later joining in as one of the original Lieutenant Seppuku fans. Ironically, Earl met Lieutenant Seppuku one day, desperate for a job, Earl pleaded to Seppuku, asking if he could fix up his F-Zero machine, in return Seppuku would recommend him to any employer. After realizing that Earl was a top notch mechanic, Seppuku took interest in him, implementing him into a two-man vigilante organization, where he would remain for many years. He was surprised to find that Seppuku not only needed him for F-Zero repairs, but he wanted him to join in on his dangerous missions--usually involving a gun. Earl had instantly become a participant in the gang war of Mute City--a war waged between Michael Chain and Brock Blaskovitz over dominance of the Lower City. Earl had also learned about medical procedures in the early days of the organization--as he knew that one of the two would get shot eventually.

A few years later, Earl had spotted a blonde haired bum in a renowned Lower City bar, he hit on her, in which she revealed herself to be Chiya Flower. While Earl failed to score a date with Chiya, he continued to work on her by persuasive means, mainly by bribing her with a free F-Zero grand prix race ticket--the deal being that she'd have to go with him to the second race--on a date. Only a day later, however, Earl was shocked to find that Seppuku had been shot in the very same bar, but was more surprised to see that his rescuer was none other than Chiya. Chiya had brought Seppuku back to his secret base, where Earl remained with Seppuku for the many years they worked. Not long after this, Chiya was implemented officially as the third member of the organization--Seppuku had made the deal with her that he would get her an F-Zero machine built if she stayed. Earl had reluctantly given up the F-Zero machine he was building for himself, and decided to build it for her instead. Earl and Chiya went on to be great friends as a result of the organization, and went on to view each other as the only people they could go to for comfort--as both had dark pasts that didn't allow them to get out much.

Earl's many talents include: Bowling, influence on women, engineering, security, surgery, Korean martial arts, armored warfare, and gambling.
