Yuki the cat and Haruko the panther from my story The Price of Freedom.

Hybrids are human animal mixes created to repopulate the earth with animals after a disease killed off the old animals.

They are not treated as equals though.They are treated like stupid beasts of the past. They cannot speak unless spoken to, cannot go out without their collars and tags, and cannot ever strike at a human or they will be put down.

Yuki is a hybrid owned by rich lady who wants to breed her with another pureblood cat so she can sell the babies. Yuki is horrified by this and wishes to kill herskef, but then she meets Haruko.
