Obviously this piece of artwork is a bit of false advertising. It's a reference to the Monster World arc of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, which is my favorite story arc of the first seven volumes. The reason for the Kirito and Asuna figures is to highlight the big similarity between the Monster World arc and Sword Art Online. When you think about it, the basic concept behind both stories is pretty much the same. A bunch of people get trapped in a fantasy game, and the only way for them to get out is to beat the final boss.
This little project of mine took three days to put together. I spent all of Wednesday afternoon drawing the figures in my old sketchbook, which somehow ended up giving me a really bad migraine. After that, it was a matter of scanning them into the computer and colorizing them. Enjoy.
Dedicated to Judai Winchester, who I know likes Yu-Gi-Oh! a lot.
