Alright, this one is very popular in Hawaii(My friend said it's asian culture). If you didn't know already, Hawaii's "modern culture" is a salad bowl of different cultures in one little spot. This "culture" differs from the american style of cultural blending as the different ethnic groups keep their own traditions. That being said, a lot of the stories have origins exclusive to their corresponding backgrounds.
This here we look upon today derives from the Japanese culture. Kanashibari (金縛り) - meaning Choking Ghost.
Multiple stories vary a lot but one thing is very common, this ghost chokes you in your sleep. Some may say that its a condition known as sleep paralysis, because of the similar symptoms(unable to move body), but there is more to it. Some stories say that the victims were fully aware and not in a sleep-like state. Often within the story, an apparition can be seen and that the bed somehow "sank in" as if there was someone else on the bed itself. Ringing and screeching are what some victims hear when this ghost attacks. One story claimed that the apparition hit a shelf as it backed away and vanished.
One of my friends, had an experience of this creepy thing and I only heard her tell it only once. I assume that she never wants to re-live the situation by bringing it up.
I say that this thing is horrible. Usually when you sleep in your own bed, there should be a state of comfort and security. This thing takes that away and it's psychologically damaging. Damaging to a point where you need professional help...possibly. Oh Well.
Sleep Tight.
As always
questions, rants. yada yada yada etc etc are always welcome.
