This one has a bit of a story behind it. It's from February so it's not my best work, and one of her legs was off so I cropped it.
Nancy was the girlfriend of one of the members of the Sex Pistols band in the late 1970s until she died at age 20. Her mother wrote a book that detailed Nancy's drug and rage filled life: she was diagnosed as schizophrenic but never received proper treatment because of the lack of medical knowledge about the illness. Her birthday was February 27, which was why I drew the piece then.
The book is personally important to me in part because her mother's narrative is very relatable to me (the hopelessness she experienced when she realized that a person so close to her heart couldn't be saved). Every time I read over pieces of the story it just makes my heart ache.
I wanted to draw something semi-peaceful because so much art of Nancy depicts her murder and her drug addiction. I based her outfit off of various things she wore in photos that were taken of her, and drew it in grayscale to mimic the remaining black-and-white photos of her.
Constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated!
