In the Merfaen tiz Ornaru, there isn't really an official class of "royalty", but the closest to it is the army's commander-in-chief, called the Master (or Mistress). Because of their great importance to the country, they are given the best of everything, and are often idolized by soldier and civilian alike. In the first part of the story, Vellatra is the Mistress, but her predecessor was this classy lady, Almira. She was a formidable warrior in her day, but as she advanced in years, she became more interested in the comforts of her position, and retreated from the battlefield to mastermind from within the cliffs. Eventually she retired and appointed Vellatra in her place, but she was honored by her people to the end of her days.
