For Sumirechan's Otaku Origins contest. ;)
-------------------------------------------
It started when I was around 4-5 years old. I was in kindergarten school that time. In the class, there was a TV, and sometimes, one of our classmates would bring movies/cartoons to school so that we can watch as entertainment. Usually, it would be Disney cartoons.
One day, a classmate brought a Pokemon CD. I had no idea what was it, but anyway, I watched, because the TV was right in front of me. And I still remember the episode till today. (Of course not the episode number or title, just a part of it). I was intrigued because it was so much different from the cartoons that I usually watched. Soon, others began bringing Pokemon CDs, and I became hooked. Not long after, during an outing at a shopping complex, I spotted one of the CDs, and begged my dad to buy it. ('Course he didn't). And, if I'm not mistaken, that Charmander plushie is still around somewhere...
Anyway, that was my first exposure to anime.
Around 1-2 years later, I discovered that there was anime shown on one of my favourite channels. Although it was dubbed (in Malay, gosh o_o), I still watched 'em. I remember Digimon and Beyblade, and I really liked the latter, 'cause I found their fights using spinning tops cool. (XD).
During my later years, I stopped watching anime, until somewhere near the end of 2006. A new channel had been introduced, and that was Animax Asia, which is still running to this day. The first animes that I watched on that channel were Jigoku Shoujo, Witch Hunter Robin, Maria-sama ga Miteiru and so forth. Anyway, those were just starting points. I began watching more in around 2007-2008.
Soon, being a picky person when it comes to TV, I started to realize that Animax's choices of anime were quite limited. So, I began to buy anime DVDs, and occasionally, watch some online. Also, since I became more active in using the Internet, I discovered the world of anime music, which contain some of the best songs I'd ever heard till today. (Not limited to OSTs :D)
Now, the only ongoing anime I watch on Animax is Fullmetal Alchemist : Brotherhood, which is going to end on the ninth of July this year (which is this Friday T^T), and my list of watched anime probably won't reach 50. So, I guess I'm not suitable to be called an 'otaku,' but maybe "anime supporter" suits me better.
