I. The Potential to be Great
Light Yagami was a man gifted with many talents and attributes. He was a natural genius and had a great ability to conceptualize plans and tactics ("Yagami Light", n.d.). Because of his remarkable intelligence, he became the top student in his school and managed to acquire a perfect score in his college entrance examination at To-Oh University. (Astudillo, 2007; "Light Yagami", n.d.)

Light had his share of physical and athletic attributes. He had been a National Junior High Champion in tennis from 1999 to 2000 (Astudillo, 2007), and despite retiring from the sport he still displayed his fierce tennis abilities at one time during a match with the detective L. At age 17, he was a very fit man who seems to have all the energy to accomplish whatever he wishes to do.

He was a man who had admirable virtues, particularly his strong sense of justice. ("Yagami Light", n.d.) He had no visible vices, and appeared to live an ideal lifestyle. His initial ambition in life was to become a member of the police force just like his father, Soichiro Yagami. ("Yagami Light", n.d.)

Similarly, Ferdinand Marcos was also a gifted man. He was a knowledgeable man who received his bachelor's degree, cum laude from the University of the Philippines - College of Law in 1939. Even more remarkable was that he would have been a class valedictorian and magna cum laude had it not been for his imprisonment in that year for his alleged involvement in the murder of his father's political rival. He would then emerge as the topnotcher in the bar exams on November of the same year with one of the highest grades in the history of the bar exams, and he would later win an acquittal from the Supreme Court ("Ferdinand E. Marcos", n.d.) Like Light, Marcos was a man who had "a passion for planning, planning, planning". (Rama, 1966)

Ferdie, as some would call him, also had physical attributes comparable to that of Light's. TIME Magazine Hong Kong Bureau Chief Roy Rowan once said in 1974 that Ferdie is "possibly the most athletic chief of state in the world" with his experience in golf, water skiing, pelota, wrestling, and boxing (as cited in "Ferdinand Marcos: One Man's Mission", 1974). Historian Manuel L. Quezon III (2007) noted that Ferdie did not smoke, drink, or swear; he was not even a womanizer in a society that was dominated by the "macho culture". Ferdie was a man who had many virtues in life, such as love of country, love of learning, discipline, and loyalty. When he was first elected President of the Philippines in 1965, he outlined his plan to solve the social and economic conditions of the country (Quezon, 2007).
