It was early May, and Peter loves the woods, but who wouldn't in the vast Russian forests?
But his mama strictly forbade him to go into the Black Forest, it was a wide, vast forest, that was filled with evil creatures.
"Baba Yaga will snatch you up!" Mama threatened. "She is an old, Transylvanian witch, and just loves little children like you, little Peter."
Now this frightened Peter, and he was an all around good boy, but with age Peter and his friends began to think all of these myths were foolish and unreal.
But Peter believed in Baba Yaga oh yes he did, for in early May that fateful morning young Peter ran into the woods with his pup, Chop. He screamed and giggled when he ran through the creek that lead into a new, and unseen forest Peter had never been in!
It excited him, though he knew he should not go, and he was about to turn around when Chop ran into the Black Forest!
"Chop!" Peter yelled, and traveled after him. He should not have been that loud, for Baba Yaga hates noisy children! She'd eat them for breakfast if you gave her a chance.
So by early afternoon Peter had found Chop, but was lost in the big, wide forest with his foolish puppy. Peter began to frantically shouting for help, and all the animals of the Black Forest did not like this, one bit at all!
"Baba Yaga will eat him for sure!" Fox sneered to Deer.
"Indeed, she'll pluck his feet like a chicken's and eat it with a bit of salt!" Owl hooted. "Bad boy, Peter, bad boy Peter is stuck in Baba Yaga's woods!"
Peter became horrified when he heard the animals hooting and carrying on in such a frightening manner. Chop did not like this, and he was a coward of a pup, and ran home. Peter could not keep up and became lost!
"Stupid dog!" Mink warned. "Baba Yaga will eat him first!"
"Yes, yes!" Wolverine jeered and snickered, and flexed his claws. "Baba Yaga will serve him in a stew, nothing is better than puppy dog tails!"
Peter soon found a path where he thought he had found an escape, but it led him to Baba Yaga the witch's hut!
