Speared
Profession Wrestling
Starring Hugh Morrus and Bill Goldberg's Shoulder
I shouldn't be here. I shouldn't be here, thousands of miles from home. My wife is lonely. My child doesn't know my name. I shouldn't be here being speared in the gut by a man's giant shoulder.
I should have finished trade school. Dad told me to finish. I could have been a refrigerator repairman. I could have been repairing someone's old cooler, while my wife cooked chicken and rice and my son struggled with math, wanting to play catch with his dad. Instead, I am thousands of miles from home, traveling with men who do not care whether I live or die, being speared in the gut by a man's giant shoulder.
My mother died a few months ago. She cried desperately on her deathbed, knowing I would continue my life on the road, never seeing my wife or son. I had to miss her funeral; I had a booking in Las Vegas. I will never see my mother again. Instead I'm here, being speared in the gut by a man's giant shoulder, while a crowd of people cheer on my destruction.
Speared in the gut. He grunts. The crowd cheers. I fall. There is nothing left for me.
