I wish there was a hand clapping emote here. Ponyo is definitely fun, but not the best Miyazaki work by far (gotta say, it's hard to maintain that level of pure awesome). Up was pretty cool and had a lot of depth. What I don't quite get is how Eva was disqualified and Ponyo wasn't. What sort of oddball qualification system were they using?
Ah, never mind that last question. That rule actually does make sense in a way.

Guys, Miyazaki has done much better than Ponyo. It's still an excellent movie, but it's far from his best work.
UP, on the other hand, is widely regarded as Pixar's greatest triumph to date.
Try not to judge this based on the country the movie originates from, please. That's almost as bad as the Academy judging based on whether or not it's a cartoon.
It's obvious Pixar's going to win.
America is very ghey that way -_-"
I want Ponyo to win. Hayao Miyazaki can kick the ass of almost any american animated movie director.
I like how the Academy pigeonholes every animated movie into a specific category and makes them all ineligible for best picture just because of their medium.
I demand Slumdog Millionaire be ineligible because it doesn't take place in Eagleland, dangit.

Never seen any of titles mentioned in this, but I predict "Coraline" will win this round since it's such a hit movie with both kids and adults.

Pixar's going to win. If they don't we're all going to die. Soonish. It's in the Bible.
