I'm no One Piece fan, but I'm now starting to recognize the huge popularity of this manga in Japan. From my archive research, it appears that the previous volume of One Piece (which was released last August) managed to debut at the top in its first week with more than a million copies sold.
This definitely means A LOT, considering that it seems to be extremely difficult for a manga series volume to sell that many copies at such a short period of time. Heck, the previous Bleach manga only managed to sell around 400,000 copies in its first week, while the previous volume of Naruto only managed to sell more than 700,000 copies.
Now I wonder how many copies the upcoming One Piece would sell. Well, at least it's a good sign that the industry is still alive and kicking.
