I heard about this when I went to the site. Depressed the hell outta me because I can't afford my manga habit and OM was practically my lifeline to good manga. *sobs*
Because OneManga was TOTALLY the only site that hosts manga scanlations.
There's still plenty of other sites out there (*cough*Mangafox*cough*), you just have to actually, ya know, look for them. Granted, most of them will likely be shut down as well, but oh well~
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! ONE MANGA!!!! DON'T LEAVE US!!!!! XOOOOOOOOO I love reading the scanlations there! There are some sites where you can't find the manga found on OneManga!!!!
But usually the big they are, the more they put up a fight. OneManga just kinda submitted on their own decision. In any case, I sorry to see them go but glad that they're doing it with honor.

I didn't really see it as stealing, either. I mean, if the scanlator didn't want their scanlations there then couldn't they just say so to OneManga?
Anyway, I'm going to be sad to see them go. I guess I'll have to track down each scanlator individually now for the series that aren't available here. There are a lot of series I never would've gotten interested in if not for that site.
OneManga was just a place that consolidated all the scanlations into one convenient place. While that does mean they are technically 'stealing' scanlators' work, it also means that all the actual scanlations are still going. You're just going to have to look a little harder, or find another consolidation site.
*sigh* This is a shame, I didn't read One Piece on it but I did read everything else on that site. I really don't have the money for buying mangas and in America almost everything is behind a few years. And I really loved reading Beelzebub and 1/2 Prince...
:C
I liked going there, because it worked faster, no pop-up ads and such. Also I could read a bunch of series that I wanted to see if I was interested in that would never reach American shores.
I'll buy manga, but only if it one of my favorites.
If they really want to sell good here in America they should:
-Come out with titles faster.(I srsly gave up on buying series that came out too slow, because I lose interest in the manga over time if I can't continue on with it for months or even years!)
-Make the prices not so ridiculously high.
-Set up something where they show the first ten chapters or something of a new title to be released for free. If the person is interested in continuing more, they can go try to get the novel.
-Set up some more magazines. Each go to a specific genre or such, and is either weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
-Start working with those they are trying to shut down.
:/
I stopped using OneManga a long time ago, but I didn't know they took others' scanlations.. wow, that's even lower than scanlating.. jeeze.
Still, I guess it's a good thing they're shutting down. At least that's one site out of the problem =/ I hope the manga industry does something similar to what CrunchyRoll is doing with anime and legalizing scans.
Goodbye to my first manga reading site. Now every time I automatically go to click on the link, I'll go 'Oh yeah, they don't have manga anymore....' and get sad all over again. T_T
I agree with Timber. Rightstuf is highly recommended. It's where I get my Berserk manga which is pretty cheap compared to other places and they do have efficient shipping. Also, you're supporting authors and publishers ensuring more manga to come. How do you expect them to keep putting out manga if it's not paying their living? .-.
I saw this yesterday when I went to check if any manga there had been updated.
On the one hand, I applaud them. They're taking the first step, and they're doing it willingly. Where Mangafox took just a few things down, but now are allowing them back on, Onemanga is going all the way and removing every single title from their site. I congratulate them for doing what is most likely the right, and probably safest, thing.
However, I still can't help but hate that they had to do it. I'm not one of the people who read manga only online and never buy them. I can honestly say I've spent a ton of money on manga, and will continue to do so for years to come. But Onemanga was the site I went to when I wanted to read OLD manga. Like, I read Devilman there, and several other old shoujo ones. It's also where I went to read the manga that will probably NEVER be published over here, due to low popularity. It saddens me that along with the very popular mangas, I'm going to lose all the mangas I won't be able to read unless the publishers over here decide to actually take risks.
All in all, this is bittersweet news, but I will stick around OneManga and see what becomes of the site.

It was bound to happen eventually. Looks like I'm stuck with the slow but legal store distribution system from now on. So long 1/2 Prince, ill see you when you're licensed in a year or five.

I agree with the previous comments-it had to happen eventually. I didn't use OneManga that much, since I like to have a physical book to look at, but if I needed a quick manga to read, it was there.
sigh... well onemanga, it was a pleasure working with you. if it weren't for you, i probably wouldnt have discovered all the manga i plan to buy soon. thank you for being there with us.

OneManga is one of the biggest scanalation sites. It makes sense that it would be first to go D:

I did kind of see this happening, First it was a good majority of manga, and then it was all mature, then it's this. I'm guessing manga fox is next.

Things change, I suppose. Nothing is around forever, but I'll just learn to enjoy reading and owning manga legally.

I've got one, but it will cost some money. If the manga is licensed, search sites like Amazon or the websites for bookstores and find a used section.
