My prayers for all of Japan--the tsunamis, the earthquake, and now nuclear issues have been horrible to see on the news.. Japan still represents to me a cultuure that has much grace, dignity and great contributions despite the tribulations, and I pray for things to improve , and for Japanes citizens and their famiies. I intent to look to donate to help.
Another reactor has began a partial meltdown and it is very likely that more will follow in its path. The radioactive fuel rods were left exposed for a short time, a plan has been devised to cool the cores by filling them with seawater. This is the first time in Japanese history that they have had any sort of a nuclear meltdown.

It's terrible, and the disasters just keep piling up it seems! First the quake, then a tsunami, now a nuclear reactor exploding... I'm keeping the people in Japan in my thoughts and prayers!
The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear facility has just experienced a blast and is leaking radiation, residents are being told to take safety precautions, such as not drinking tap water, covering their faces with a wet towel, and to not go outside. The radiation team has also been deployed as a precaution. People have been trying to leave, but the roads have been in terrible condition due to the earthquakes. Officials fear another Chernobyl like incident may happen, but it is unlikely and the radiation levels are decreasing.

The Japanese people will be in my prayers tonight. I've also made my donation for the relief efforts and I encourage those who can donate to please do so, preferably with a trusted organization. You can all refer to ANN's list of organizations to donate in:
As an anime fan with a job, this is probably the best thing I can do right now for Japan.
I'm also hoping for the safety of some of the people involved in the anime and manga industry, particularly the ones involved in my favorite anime and manga. Hopefully, nothing bad has happened to them.
Another weaker but no less deadly earthquake just hit, the death rate is estimated in the thousands, and a radioactive leak was detected in one of the power plants...
It's getting bad, please pray for them.

Yes, nature IS really creepy D: On the news, it said this was Japan's most powerful earthquake in over 1200 years o A o What's terrible is that back then, there wasn't much that could crush you. Nowadays, wrong spot, wrong time, you're done for.
Another scary thought is that they have had to close five nuclear plants today alone because they cannot keep them from melting down due to the lack of power, the last thing a country with that high of a population density needs is a nuclear disaster. I'll be praying for them.
I was so depressed when I watched the news this morning... I actually didn't want to do anything but watch the news. I can't believe this happened to such a magnificent country.
It's so horrible... I heard about it all day today. I hope they're okay but that's a lot of confirmed deaths already :'< I hope they recover. I really want to help them out so I'm having my club merge with Red Cross to hold a fundraiser to help them!! Events like these are so sad...
Hearing about this is really a tragedy, and I can't imagine how much damage Japan took. It's even sadder that Hawaii and the West Coast and other places near Japan are being hit by tsunamis from the earthquake! Most of my family lives in Hawaii, and I just pray that they are doing well over there. ):
I was watching videos on youtube during the afternoon... It's just horrible and impressive... I'm also impressed by Japanese people. They really reacted well, I guess they are the only ones who can react that way... So sad some died, anyway... ;~;
There might be a second tsunami soon, I really really hope that it won't happen or, at least, won't be that huge...
This is really something much... I hope and I will definitely pray that it will come as best as possible for Japan. They are already prepared for these sort of things, because it is common to them, but still this strong... But we have to look from the positive site and look that it will be better!
I expected this incident to make it onto this site, horrible. and very scary, I have two sets of Grandparents living along the west coast of the US, both have confirmed they're okay so far, though one set lives extremely close to the Brookings harbor in Oregon that got hit with a smaller Tsunami that wrecked boats and killed 1 person.
I'm still awaiting word through my grandmother if our relatives in Japan have fared okay through the quakes (already assured that they weren't effected by the Tsunami)
a very nerve racking day so far keeping tabs on everyone and making sure they're out of harm's way and stay there.
But I have faith that Japan will recover, throughout history, they've lived up to their own old proverb "Fall seven times, Stand up eight" while this is a hard blow and a great tragedy, I believe in them to "rise from the ashes" and recover in time.

To anyone who is buying into any "end of the world" junk, DON'T DO IT!
We live on a big ball of rock that's hot inside. The planet has gone through geologically active and quiet periods, and it may just be that we're in an active period now. It's been doing this for billions of years, not to mention billions of years before humans ever showed up. Earth is going to do what it's going to do regardless of whether we're here or not. There's no mastermind or master plan behind it, and no one can predict the future. So lets all just calm down and live our lives.
Oh, and if anyone's read that story on a 'super moon' period coming that's supposed to cause more natural disasters, the guy who's predicting that is an astrologer. He's a quack. There's no significant difference between the moon's gravitational effect on Earth during a 'super moon' than there is at any other time.
Thank you.

From what I read on Yahoo news (Though I have had reasons before to doubt Yahoo's accuracy) this is the strongest earthquake to ever hit Japan, but only the 5th largest earthquake in the world since 1900.
My heart goes out to the people of Japan who are living with this disaster.

I promise to calm down, SomeGuy. Personally, I have been having crisis after crisis recently so I seem a little on edge. Either way, it does not matter at this point. What does matter is that Japan is able to recuperate and stand tall in the wake of this disaster. My heart and prayers go out to the victims and deceased.
I've been half-listening to the AlJazeera channel on youtube while working om a picture for about 3 hours so far. They have live coverage on what's happen in Japan, including other parts of the East.

I've been watching it since it happened. The death toll shot up so quickly. Sympathies to all in Japan and the other countries that are going to be effected.
I'm watching the news- it's just awful. one of the oil refineries exploded in a fireball. it looked like a mushroom cloud. and the tsunamis have been coming in sweeping away boats and cars and just turning all that into muddy debris. as I was watching the TV footage of one of the waves come in, there were cars driving trying to get away as the water and debris came toward them- it was really scary and upsetting. prayers and good thoughts to everyone in Japan!!

I hate to be the devil's advocate but people need to wake up and watch the news. The world is coming to an end.

Oh, it's a very powerful earthquake. I've heard about this too, my friends told me. It's so sad to hear something like this.
