Could've fooled me. That's the only thing I ever hear anyone complain about as far as his almost-role. Disliking a casting decision due to an actor's skill is one thing, but everyone complaining about it just brings up how he would look wrong racially and forget to mention anything else.
I really do hope people stop razzing on McCartney. For one, Zuko was fair-skinned to begin with. Having this other guy is like a step in the reverse direction, if we go by what the fans have decreed as far as ethnicity. Also, one would be amazed at what a good makeup artist can do.
Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go lol in the corner while the rest of these rather silly purist fans make total fools of themselves. Just be happy this is happening.
So yeah, seeing the pics are removed, I can only update on the location of the set. The current set is located in a quarry where they are filming the Fire Nation sequnces in Telford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (a.k.a. twelve minutes away from me) but they filmed also in Greenland for the Water Nation and Reading, Pennsylvania. BTW, check the pics out on Wikipedia seeing that they are removed. What I find scarier is that Zuko could have been played by 'le gasp' Jesse McCartney!

Although I don't watch "Avatar: The Last Airbender", I find that fans of the show should wait until they actually see the entire plot of the film based on this show to make a fair critisism judegment on whether they find it to be awesome or not awesome.
Movie adaptations don't always have to use all the exact details of whaterver stories they're intended to be adapted from. Plus, in the event a filmmaker receives permission to adapt stories created by those working at another studio, it's important to make changes in order to include room for his/her creative ideas and use his/her creative story planning strategies as well. Look at "Dragonball: Evolution" (2009) for example. It was necessary to make certain changes since its director James Wong isn't the author of the Japanese comic book series it was based on, and it allowed viewers distinct two versions by different people from each other. Therefore, there's no need for a right or wrong answer rule for doing a film adaptation of another work. The important thing is whether an adaptation succeeds in attracting and satisfying a lot of moviegoers or not.
As for the upcoming film "The Last Airbender", it's Paramount Pictures(creator of "Avatar: The Last Airbender") doing this piece of work, and look at it as one studio wanting to have two distinctive "Avatar: The Last Airbender" continuities, kind of like Japan's Sunrise, Inc. creating more than one "Gundam" continuity, or even like the "Transformers" franchise being split up into several continuities.

Thanks for saving the pic Wafuru, I didn't get to see it either. Well here is what I think:
Aang is fine, probably the one that looks the closest to the cartoon, he just needs to smile more...he looks way too serious to be the cheerful and relaxed Aang. The tattoo is woah...not bad.
Katara...hmm, well I'm not sure what to think of her...only the skin color is different but aside that, I agree with the hair-loopies thing, maybe she needed to have longer hair to be able to tie those XD. No biggie though.
Zuko seems to be in the older side than the rest, but what bugs me is that he doesn't have the red burn mark in his eye, they need to add that! it's crucial to the story, and without that, he doesn't look NOTHING like him.
And Sokka...no comment ^^;
I just need to see the movie, maybe it'll be better than we think. We need to keep in mind that these are cartoon characters made from a person's imagination, so there's NO WAY a real person would look EXACTLY as the cartoon/anime one.

ROTFL. It's a MOVIE, you actually excpect them to get it right? Movies have been getting adaptions wrong since they thought up adaptions! Whether its books, games, or tv shows, you name it, movies have gotten it wrong EVERY TIME. Even lord of the rings (my fav movies) failed when compared to the books. If its a good movie, smile and try not to be to harsh, if the movie smells, sigh pitifully and wait for the next one.
Hey, stop being so negative! Belive me, I have a few doubts about the designs too (although I love Aang's tattoo. I mean face it, solid blue would look phony. And the only problem I have is the fact that Sokka and Katara are white), but at least I can still be optimistic. As long as the movie itself turns out to be good, and the acting is good, then the character designs don't really matter too much, now do they? (I always liked Zuko with hair better, anyway)
As for Katara's hair-loopies, do you guys honestly think that style would even be POSSIBLE without either hours in the dressing room or a wig? I mean, LOOK at it!
EPIC RACEFAIL.
Aang looks like a thug and, gosh, that looks like a terrible rash, Zuko. And since when do white people live in igloos in frozen tundra?
Good job, Paramount. Bravo. www.racebending.com
Sokka and Katara? Oh hell no. Sokka is the meat and sarcasm guy. No one with a title like that has any business being a prettyboy. And Katara's actor is a terrible mashup of too young and looks absolutely nothing like Katara. Come to think of it, Sokka has the exact same problem. Shoot fire them both immediately.
I won't pretend to have that much forethought... Only that I wanted to compare and contrast the movie and animated versions up on my world. More like I got really lucky.

Holy hell, though. Jackson Rathbone as Sokka? What the hell, M. Night. If he sparkles, heads will roll.

Okay, thoughts on the headshots....
Aang: Please don't let him constantly look that serious in the movie...
Katara: I can kinda, sorta, maybe see how she could be Katara. Maybe?
Sokka: Rathborn....I am not going to say anything.
Zuko: ....Where am I supposed to be seeing Zuko?
