It's really not that weird. It's pretty common, since all the series are not anime, like take vocaloid for example. It's not an anime, yet there are so many scans available for it from different artists.

The term 'fanart' here means that we cannot use other people's work for our own work. Like any sort of wallpapers they've made, since that's something they've put an effort into. So leaving fanart out, we're left with scans from artbooks by different artists/mangakas, screenshots, manga images and vectors(in some cases).

The reason everyone goes to MT is usually for the scans, since what we're doing here is 'raster' graphics or simply, photomanipulation.
There's another type called 'vector' graphics where you create an image from scratch using a scan or some other image as a reference.

Hmm I think the fanart in MT is under the Indy Art section. Atleast that's what I've seen but I can't be too sure since MT is different from theO. As for the styles, I think thats because many different artists make there own artbooks which can comprise of characters from a variety of anime. So the difference in styles come.

You should try it. Lyrics never seem cheesy you know. At first you may think that but later on you realize how much a song sometimes suits a scan. You should definitely give it a shot Izuzu~
