"Make something every day and change your life!" -Noah Scalin

The only rule is: there are no rules!

Most Important: Don't stress out. Remember, this about taking little steps. When doing your daily project, focus on the current day and don't think about tomorrow, next week, or next month. Big projects can be incredibly daunting, but you'll be amazed at what you can do when you break them down into a series of tiny, manageable pieces.

The key to a successful daily project is deciding on a subject or medium that you will enjoy exploring for a year.

Keep in mind that a simpler idea will go a lot farther than a complicated on. If you choose a consistent subject matter (skulls, stars, smiley faces, chihuahuas, etc.), pick something you already like. You probably have plenty examples of it in your environment to inspire you, and you'll be less likely to get tired of it before a year is over.

and lastly, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT DOCUMENT!!!!! take pictures/video of not only the finished product. maybe take some of you in the process of making the project. and if it is something that will change over time (snow melting, food rotting), document that as well.

~-~-I will post the day's prompt early in the morning. when i finish my project, i will upload the documentation. in the evening i will post tomorrow's prompt to give you a head's up with the spoiler alert. ~-~-

all prompts and the above introduction rules are from the book A Daily Creativity Journal 365 Make Something Every Day And Change Your Life! by Noah Scalin

DAY 30

PROMPT: play time. work with toys: if you don't have any, borrow some from a friend with kids, and maybe even work with the kids!

i dug out my old shoebox of special legos from under my bed. i haven't played with these in years. it took me awhile to figure out how to make a kitty though. but after i had made my kitty and taken a photo, i was going to put the legos back in the shoebox and put it back under my bed. but i ended up playing with the legos making lots of new creatures for over an hour. i had a lot of fun.

DAY 31 PROMPT: make a path for people and invite people to try it out.

DAY 29

PROMPT: make a disguise for your self, a friend, a pet, or an object. see if you can fool anyone with it.

this is me, with my kitty ear hat, collar, and some whiskers i drew on my face. rather simple disguise i suppose. i felt really silly and rather humiliated at first walking around campus like this. i've been wearing my diguise all day. i wear my kitty hat on campus all the time, but having my whiskers and collar on felt weird. i didn't get any wierd looks when i was at weber (fine arts building) though. they thought i was doing it for a theatre project. but when i was walking around campus and in roskens (education building) and milo (student center), i got a LOT of weird looks. i eventually forgot that i had the whiskers on, and ignored my collar so i felt less shy as the day went on. but this collar itches like crazy. now i understand why cats scratch at them so often. i'm going to end up with a rash from scratching by the end of the day probably.

DAY 30 PROMPT: play time. work with toys: if you don't have any, borrow some froma friend with kids, and maybe even work with the kids.

DAY 28

PROMPT: back to school. use traditional school materials like number 2 pencils and lined notebook paper to make something nontraditional today.

much happier kitty today. i had a hard time finding a number 2 pencil though. i am an art major in college, so i have a lot of pencils of varying lead hardness/softness. no number two pencils though. so i had to dig through my mom's stash of pencils. then i got out the textbook from my education class and drew a kitty struggling to climb up the pyramid.

DAY 29 PROMPT: make a disguise for yourself, a friend, a pet, or an object. see if you can fool anyone with it.

DAY 27

PROMPT: dreamland. use a recent dream as inspiration for what you do today.

i had a sort of nightmare the previous night. it started out great. i was a kid again, and i was in 1st grade again. i had a second chance. i had absolutely NO friends in elementary school at all. i had a second chance, i could have friends this time. class hadn't started, and i was having a great time talking with the other kids, i was making friends. but then the teacher walked in, and it was my MOM. and she was mad at me, she yelled at me to for talking and no one else, when class hadn't even started yet. and she pointed out all my mistakes to everyone the whole morning. the kids started to join her, teasing me. it was a repeat before. then it was recess. and like last time, everyone ran off with their friends to play together, and i was left alone, sitting by the wall. i had no one to play with, the others wouldn't let me join their games or share their toys. so i drew myself as a kitten, sitting sadly alone, watching all the others play together and having fun, completely ignoring my existence.

DAY 28 PROMPT: back to school. use traditional school materials like number two pencils or lined notebook paper to make something nontraditional.

DAY 26

PROMPT: make something portable (or that seems portable) that normally isn't.

this is henry. at first i made him literally portable in the fact that i took him with me everywhere today. i buckled him in my car, and he went to class with me, to my doctors appointment, napped with me, and went shopping with me. but at the last minute, i decided to do something different. a kitty on wheels. so i dug my old roller skate out from under my bed, and carefully slid henry in. he has really long legs, so it was a tight fit. but he made it.

DAY 27 PROMPT: dreamland. use a recent dream as inspiration for what you do today.
