"Make something every day and change your life!" -Noah Scalin

The only rule is: there are no rules!

Most Important: Don't stress out. Remember, this about taking little steps. When doing your daily project, focus on the current day and don't think about tomorrow, next week, or next month. Big projects can be incredibly daunting, but you'll be amazed at what you can do when you break them down into a series of tiny, manageable pieces.

The key to a successful daily project is deciding on a subject or medium that you will enjoy exploring for a year.

Keep in mind that a simpler idea will go a lot farther than a complicated on. If you choose a consistent subject matter (skulls, stars, smiley faces, chihuahuas, etc.), pick something you already like. You probably have plenty examples of it in your environment to inspire you, and you'll be less likely to get tired of it before a year is over.

and lastly, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT DOCUMENT!!!!! take pictures/video of not only the finished product. maybe take some of you in the process of making the project. and if it is something that will change over time (snow melting, food rotting), document that as well.

~-~-I will post the day's prompt early in the morning. when i finish my project, i will upload the documentation. in the evening i will post tomorrow's prompt to give you a head's up with the spoiler alert. ~-~-

all prompts and the above introduction rules are from the book A Daily Creativity Journal 365 Make Something Every Day And Change Your Life! by Noah Scalin

DAY 15

PROMPT: what can you do with just a dollar? use a dollar bill as your medium or inspiration today.

i really wanted to draw a kitty in place of washington for today, but i had a heck of a time figuring out how to do it. i decided eventually to draw the entire dollar. but after i had my page measured out, i realized the dollar had a lot of detail that i REALLY didn't want to freehand. so i printed a picture of a dollar to the exact measurements of a real dollar, then laid a ground on the back. all i had to do after that was trace over the dollar to transfer the image ti my paper. took me over an hour to transfer the dollar though (so much detail!). but i did freehand the kitty washington in the center though.

DAY 16 PROMPT: make a unique print by cutting up a potato or sponge, and then use it to stamp on a material of your choice.

DAY 14

PROMPT: make something microscopic. how small can you work? can you make something that requires a magnifying class or microscope to see?

i procrastinated all day on this one. i could not, for the life of me, think of a way to do a cat microscopic. but then i was napping with mindy, and i could see the profile of her face, and i was observing her nose really. so i decided, instead of doing a literal microscopic, i would draw a very small portion of a cat. just the muzzle.
(can you believe we've already done this for two weeks?)

DAY 15 PROMPT: what can you do with just a dollar? use a dollar bill as your medium or inspiration today.

DAY 13

PROMPT: use tea leaves or tea bags (used or unused) or even just liquid tea (in a cup or not) to create something today.

alphonse13 inspired me with her water color of temari on day 10. so today i made a water color using a cup of tea. i introduce to you, Mr. Pants. this is my rendition of a cat that lives on the campus of my university. he has a white shirt and shoes, and black pants, gloves, mask, and mustache. he (or she, i'm not sure) is absolutely adorable. but skittish. i'm allowed to look, but if i try to approach him, he runs into the bushes. tomorrow i'm going to bring a baggy of cat treats to keep in my backpack, to try and woo him.

DAY 14 PROMPT: make something microscopic. how small can you work? can you make something that requires a magnifying class or microscope to see?

DAY 12

PROMPT: camouflage create or alter something so that it disappears into its background.

i enjoyed today immensely. mindy, not so much. i told her i wanted her to lay on her pillow, and she procrastinated for hours. finally i snuck back into our room to see her napping on her pillow finally. so i drug a few of my cat stuffies from my petnets and buried her.

DAY 13 PROMPT: use tea leaves or tea bags (used or unused) or even just liquid tea (in a cup or not) to create something today.

DAY 11

PROMPT: work on the other hand. pick a medium you're comfortable with, then use your non-dominant hand-if you usually favor your right hand then only use your left and vice-versa.

took my sketch book with me to work today. i sat there for awhile trying to figure out what to draw. but i spotted Diana on my sailor moon pencil case, so i drew her. i think she looks drunk. drew this with my left hand, cause i'm right handed.

DAY 12 PROMPT: camouflage create or alter something so that it disappears into its background.
