To celebrate the release of Persona 4, I decided to review the anime series, Persona Trinity Soul. Let me start off by saying, if you have never the Persona videogame series, then the anime is a good introduction.
That's all its good for.
I'm not saying the anime was UTTER crap, the anime would have been better if it didn't have the Persona name attached to it.
Here we go...first a breif explanation of what Persona is!
Persona is an entity that exists within a person's self, most of the time they are interpretations of what a certain tarot card is. All Persona games have a creature named Igor giving the main heroes the power to summon their Persona's. Although this is said the be a sequel to Persona 3, it isn't despite the ONE cameo appearance.
This story follows Shin and Jun's journey into the world of Persona. In the first episode you see them moving to a rural town to live with their jerkwad of a brother Ryo (go figure).
ANN Synopsis
The stage is Ayanagi City, a city near the Japan Sea. It is a futuristic city that was built to carry out the recovery from the calamity caused by the "Apathy Syndrome" ten years previous. High school student Shin Kanzato with his little brother Jun, meet with their elder brother Ryō, who is the chief of the Ayanagi City Police, again after ten years. At that time, a series of strange incidents happen in Ayanagi City such as the crew of a submarine that suddenly disappears while in their submarine, or a spiritless symptom which disturbs the world after ten years, or the case of the inside out corpse where a student took on a cruel appearance. Ryō tracks down the organization behind the string of incidents, and having become involved in the incidents, Shin awakens the "Persona".
This anime was a love hate thing, I loved the calmness of the art style, I hated the characters. The only interesting character ends up dying (go figure). The drama of the show was consistent, it keep me on the edge of my seat at times. This anime reminded me of when the first Final Fantasy movie came out, everyone who didnt know what Final Fantasy was LOVED IT. All the fans hated it.
The sad news about this series was I totally forgot how it ended.
I give Persona Trinity Soul a C-
